We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosalind Bertram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rosalind, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The research and love for what I do started back in 2007 when I was pregnant for my first child. I really dove into the herbal world and started making herbal preparations for my family and friends, which later branched out into skin care in 2010. It was all well received and I continued to make products as a hobby until 2016 when I officially launched my business. I never saw myself as someone who would run a business or that I’d be in the natural and organic body care and cosmetic space but I’m thrilled that I am. I can’t say that I had a business plan before all this started but the love for the things that I’ve learned and made along with some personal life experiences have created and grown my business where it is today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other businesses is that I make high quality skincare, body care and makeup made with organic and natural oils, butters, essential oils, herbs and botanicals. My makeup is colored with sustainable micas and nature identical oxides. I leave the harsh synthetic chemicals, dyes and fragrances out. The importance of making my products differently than the mainstream cosmetic industry is very personal to me. I lived in a house with hidden mold back in 2010 and it made me extremely sick for several years. A few years later I had exposure to fiberglass which included lots of skin issues. I could not use anything other than my products on my skin at that time or I’d have major flareups. This experience really fueled my passion to expand my product line in hopes that I could be of help to people that have chronic skin issues or sensitive skin and help educate them on the importance of why certain chemicals are best left out. I spent thousands of hours researching and with a lot of trial and error through the years, I have an extensive line that is always growing. My health journey plays a big part of the where my business is today. I hope to continue to bring awareness to what toxicity can do to our bodies and educate on the steps to help recover and thrive through lifestyle changes, removal of toxins and stressors and of course, the use of amazing skincare, body care and makeup.
There were times when I wanted to give up due to health issues but I knew this is what I was supposed to doing. It wasn’t always easy but it’s been worth it.
Through my health struggles, my body shape changed, my energy levels tanked often and I was really hard on myself and felt like I wasn’t good enough, doing enough or needed to look different to be successful. That thought process was so damaging to me as a person and slowed the growth of my business because I was holding myself back. I needed to love and be kind to myself right where I was at to get where I wanted to go. I want to share that message and be an authentic voice of truth, encouraging all who come in come in contact with me and my business to be the best version of themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a very small town but we are within driving distance to a lot of amazing places. Depending on the season would determine where I would take them because we have all types of weather here. If it were summer, I would take them to Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA. The water is extremely warm for this area and when the tide goes out there’s a huge sandbar to walk on. There’s lots of shallow tide pools with so many different sea creatures to observe. The White Mountain area in northern New Hampshire is breathtaking in the fall. The leaves are bursting with color. You can take it all in by just driving through the area or there is lots of hiking trails that have amazing views. There is a quaint little restaurant in Mason, NH called The Pickity Place that is one of a kind. They serve a monthly menu and use herbs and edible flowers from there own gardens and greenhouse to cook and garnish their dishes with. This is one place you don’t want to miss out on.
A lovely little coffee shop called The Root recently opened in Temple, NH. Their maple lattes and fruit and cream croissants do not disappoint so we’d definitely be paying them a visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband definitely deserves a shout out. My face is at the front of this business but he is behind the scenes doing so much and I truly wouldn’t be where I’m at without him. He’s always willing to lend a hand whenever and wherever it’s needed and I’m truly grateful for that. My 3 children are also my biggest supporters and I love that they get to be a part of this journey with me. They’ve taught me to cherish the everyday moments and that life is not all about business. They have and will always come before work and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
