We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?

What an excellent question!  Taking you 22 years back in time, I was at a friend’s house in the farmlands of Wisconsin.  As I walked down the hallway, some hands suddenly reached out and aggressively pulled me into the bathroom.  It was a large man, clearly on drugs, who had broken into the house and had targeted me as his intended victim.  He started slamming me up against the door; his fingers gripping me so tightly that they were literally inside my skin. I had learned 3 self-defense moves 2 weeks prior, and the only thoughts running through my head were that I needed to stay conscious and I had to try these 3 moves.  Well they worked, and my attacker got hauled off to prison with a broken nose. The police told me that he had watched the group of us from outside the house, and he had chosen me out of everyone there.

It was this experience that sparked me to study the field of victimology to understand how attackers choose their intended victims, and I went on to get 2 different 2nd degree black belts, as well as, studied many different forms of martial arts and self-defense.  It became my mission in life to create this in a way that any woman and her family could have access to learning all aspects of personal safety, which is why I developed my course as an online platform.  We all deserve to be empowered around our safety rather than just hoping for the best.  We are all capable of overcoming an attacker or someone harassing us; it’s just a matter of learning the skills and concepts to be able to do so.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This is the #1 personal safety and self-defense course designed for women BY a woman who has survived her own attack using self-defense. It’s the only course that covers ALL aspects of personal safety; techniques that I chose because they work brilliantly for a woman’s body, verbal techniques, psychological techniques, a strategic plan for if an intruder enters their home, self-defense laws, technology that is focused on safety, self-defense tools, situational awareness and so much more. Also most martial arts, even when taught by a woman, are taught in a severely masculine way, and the feminine woman is feeling left out. I have taught in a very light, feminine, fun way. In the videos I’m teaching in cocktail dresses and other feminine outfits in a beautiful home, so it doesn’t feel dark, masculine or scary. I meet women where they’re at. I know they are busy. I know they walk around in heels. I know they feel vulnerable when thinking about fending off a larger man. That’s why I created bite-sized videos, so they can watch even when they’re on the run or making dinner. I teach them to USE their heels. I also teach them that self-defense doesn’t need to be fancy, and doesn’t depend on strength. It’s all about leverage and having a preplanned response that keeps them one step ahead of the attacker.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1. We’d start off with an early morning hike 2. We’d head straight to the Breakfast Joynt on Bell Rd 3. We’d take an afternoon stroll through the Botanical Gardens 4. We’d head to dinner at the Hillstone on Camelback 5. We’d end with some live music at The Sanctuary

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to thank Jaqueline Von Hardy for encouraging this shoutout!  She has been not only a mentor to me, but also supported me personally more than I can put into words. I’d also like to say how deeply grateful I am to my friends and family who have stood by my side and supported me as I tirelessly worked to bring this online course to fruition.  I absolutely could not have done this on without them.  It’s with all of their support that we are now saving lives all around the world.  The ripple effect has been massive.
