We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Steele and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Golf Weekly in the heart of the pandemic in May of 2020. I was always researching the latest releases of golf apparel, equipment, and accessories, anyway, so I thought that if I could distill my research into a consumable video format (Youtube) we could grab some attention. Golf is also one of the fastest-growing sports in the world right now, and there is evergreen content since new golf gear comes out every year. There are a few different ideologies when starting your business: 1. Do something you love, so it won’t feel like work. 2. Find a profitable, repeatable model and scale. I chose the path to do something I enjoy and would be willing to do for free. I wanted to focus on a few core channels first, and the biggest for me was Youtube. I didn’t see a lot of major players in my niche, so I saw the opportunity to grow fast and build a community. From there, I just started putting in the work and building content.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a Golf focused content creation company that focuses on keeping golfers updated with the latest golf equipment, apparel, and accessories releases. What sets our organization apart is that we curate large lists of product releases, then distill the information into a shortlist of our favorites for any given category. For example, we are about to release our favorite Golf Gloves for 2022. The analogy is when you are traveling and are asking locals “where should we go and eat?”, they will give you a “Shortlist” of places to go. We want to set the golfer up for success by distilling the thousands of product releases in the industry every year into our curated shortlist of favorites.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t have started this channel without the support and encouragement of my wife Betsy. My brother who is three years older than I am also deserves some credit as we used to discuss about the latest golf products being released, and how excited we were to try them out. In early April, I also purchased Matt Par’s Youtube Mastery course, and launched my channel the next month. If you are thinking about starting a Youtube channel, I would highly suggest Matt’s course.
