Meet Sabrina Marie: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, who did you look up to most while growing up? Why?
As early as the age of 5, it became apparent that my hero was my Nino Ray. He was a first-generation college graduate, which was very inspiring to me as a kid. No one stressed the importance of going to college in my family, but he was a champion of higher education. That gave me something to aspire to. He showed me that with ambition and perseverance you can make anything happen. With his encouragement, I went to college which helped me discover my passion for photography.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is about capturing the mark we leave on Earth; I tell stories about the cycles of life through photography. I focus on the relationship between what was and what is. I have many subjects in the photos I take, whether that be people or landscapes. I intend to provoke an emotional response with my photography by highlighting all aspects of life, even the most overlooked parts of reality. I want my audience to be open to the possibilities of life. Being an artist has taught me that success is not linear. As long as you remain passionate about your art, you’ll always be successful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the area I would first hit up South Mountain for an early morning hike to watch the sunrise. Then we can celebrate our hike with coffee and galletas at Tres Leche’s Cafe. Next, we would venture down to the Phoenix Art Museum to check out some exhibits, especially the firefly exhibit. Lastly, we would explore Roosevelt Row on First Friday.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my grandma. She was always so willing to be my model and the best one at that! No matter what she never lost faith in me and was always so proud of my accomplishments.
