Meet Samantha DeSoto

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha DeSoto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have worked in the Digital Marketing industry for over a decade. Over that time, the vast majority of the clients I worked on were large corporations and those owned by private equity. I saw the large amounts of money they were able to pour into their marketing budget and the constant conversations they would have about this or that small business that they wanted to “beat out”. I had a hard time sleeping at night knowing that I was helping them drive these mom and pop shops out of business while piling more work on their employees without pay raises.

I want better for myself and my community. This is why I started my own business. At Sierra Delta Marketing, LLC, we are the only digital marketing company that turns away large corporations and private equity. Our goal is to bring agency-level experience at a price point that small businesses can afford, so we can give them a competitive edge against those with large budgets. We want to help the small business owner who is working to put food on the table, to pay for their kids’ soccer practice, who is treating their employees fairly and paying a living wage. Not the large corporations that are trying to establish a monopoly and make conditions worse for their employees and customers alike.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love talking about this because I am so passionate about helping small businesses grow. As I mentioned a minute ago, our agency is unique in that we only work with small businesses. We have turned away large companies simply because we believe in what we do. Our price point is very low, so we have a large number of companies that try to work with us, especially because our work speaks for itself. We have a proven track record of delivering a high-quality product for a small budget. This has attracted private equity companies that have already made large investments and want a quick and cheap way to see a return on their investment. However, we tell them “No”.

Our passion is pouring into our community, not Wall Street or rich investors who don’t care about the businesses they invest in. We work directly with business owners who have a passion for what they do. We have learned that when you care about the people you work with – both us and the business owners – it shines through in everything you touch. When we work with you, we care about your business and your goals, not just the metrics.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our company is based in Phoenix/Scottsdale. My partner and I both grew up here, some of the few Arizona-born people who still live in the state. Arizona is unique in that nearly anything you want to do is within driving distance. Yes, you might be driving for three hours, but who doesn’t love a good day trip?

We have a melting pot of cuisines to try. For Mexican food, I suggest Los Sombreros or Dilla Libre. The best Thai food I have ever had is at a small restaurant in Cottonwood named Thai Palace Oldtown. For those with a gluten allergy, downtown Mesa has the best fully gluten-free menu at Against the Grain. And for those on a budget, you really can’t beat Angie’s Prime Grill.

If you want to wander around looking at art, I suggest Old Town Scottsdale. It’s full of galleries with magnificent art pieces. We also have so much culture in Arizona and so many theaters holding plays and musicals that you can always find one that suits your style.

I am very thankful for my partner in business and life, Cameron Truitt. He is our SEO Director and has given me the courage to be able to focus on our business full-time. Without his love and support, I would not have had the opportunity to build our business to the level it is today.
