We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Trieckel Detwiler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is getting my art out into the world-to help people heal, find peace, or good energy from the love and energy I put into each piece. Many people see things in different paintings or charcoal drawings I create. Different people can look at the same painting and see completely different images in the galactic clouds, for instance…and that brings me joy. Currently, I’m splitting my time between my business, creating art, taking care of my health, and being a toddler mom. So, professionally, I would love to create and sell enough to make a direct living from it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My abstract acrylic galaxy paintings are mesmerizing, a little weird, and they usually surprise people…many of my paintings change color when you walk by or as the light of the day changes. I like experimenting and playing with iridescence, bold colors, texture, and light. To me, my art translates into a different kind of energy that resonates in a special, maybe even spiritual way. The concept behind each piece is usually a balance between opposites- science and spirituality, micro versus macro when comparing nature and our universe, life and death, pain and healing, etc. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve welcomed more “happy accidents” as I paint over the years. And even though I have had plenty of setbacks, I just keep painting, taking my business…and life…one day at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
With a toddler in tow and the pandemic, my suggestions for a good time might look a little different, ha! Anyway, I love Ike’s Love and Sandwiches, The Stand, Curry Home, Base Pizza, Sabai Thai, Rebel Lounge Reap and Sow Coffee, Cartel Coffee for food places. There are so many excellent local food places-too many to name! Places to check out- downtown Phoenix by the Phoenix Suns Arena for entertainment and nightlife, KTR for kids in Scottsdale, Hiking Dreamy Draw, Cruise the Phoenix Zoo is awesome for littles, the Desert Botanical Gardens… again, so many options!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business would be nothing without Art Storefronts. They have helped me learn about business and marketing. The community of artists they have created has helped me stay motivated with my business even when faced with hard challenges. My art gallery website is easy to navigate and build with their digital platform. I am, also, eternally grateful for the healers that I have come across on my own personal journey. And, most importantly, my family and friends for supporting and loving me and my artwork.
