We had the good fortune of connecting with Scianna Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scianna, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is something I’m still trying to figure out with starting this business. Aside from my business, I work a full time job so finding time to spend with loved ones or focus on self care can be difficult. I’ve always found it difficult to say no to customers but have quickly realized I can’t say yes to everyone if I still want to have some time to myself. I need to prioritize this time to myself in order to prevent burnout from the work flow.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always loved to bake, ever since I was young. In fact, I come from a family of panaderos (bakers) so I like to think it’s “in my blood”. It wasn’t until February 2023 that I decided to start creating treats for sale. I began doing dipped treats like cake pops, cakesicles and a variety of chocolate dipped treats. Today, these are still on the menu but I’ve worked my way into making custom cakes! This business has come with its challenges. From time management, to self doubt in pricing, to making countless mistakes, I have to always remind myself why I do this. As a beginner cake artist/ treat maker, I love that with every order, comes experience. More than that though, I love the satisfaction of knowing I have happy customers.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To anyone coming to a trip in Phoenix, here are a few places I’d recommend: – Downtown Phoenix (nightlife)
– Joe’s Tacos
– Pete’s Fish & Chips
– Westgate in Glendale (nightlife)
– Carolina’s Mexican food
– Tres Leches Cafe in Phoenix
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely need to recognize my family for their support. Since I decided to start this business in February, my first couple orders were primarily from members of my family and to this day, they continue to purchase from me for all their special events. This is incredibly meaningful to me and without them, I wouldn’t have the success I do today. I’d also like to shoutout my significant other, Isaiah, for his constant words of affirmation and support. From being my delivery partner, to helping me set up at events, or even just reminding me everything is going to be alright, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
