We had the good fortune of connecting with Senovia Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Senovia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think authenticity and pure passion is what makes any business successful. I really try to make decisions that feel real and true to myself and my heritage. Novia’s Bakery is built off my childhood and my family so it’s my way of honoring my loved ones and most cherished memories. That’s where my passion comes in too. My grandparents passed when I was young, and my Nana Lupe was a huge influence on my life and my view of food. By opening this business, it’s almost a way to reconnect with her.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Novia’s Bakery offers a variety of sweets and baked goods based off childhood favorites and Mexican pastries. This bakery has been years and years in the making (maybe in my head) as I’ve always wanted to create this business. With the pandemic, moving across states back to my hometown, it’s felt like the right time to take the risk and open up shop.
It’s hasn’t been easy, but it’s absolutely worth all the long hours and sore muscles. Doing what you love and bringing a childhood dream to life is all worth it, and I’m so excited to keep going!
My only piece of advice is if anyone is thinking about creating a business, or even just selling goodies, do it! You are unique, and this community needs you. So do it!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, so many options!! First off, our Mexican food is the absolute best. St Mary’s Mexican food, Tania’s, Birrieria Guadalajara, El Minuto, the list keeps going.
4th Ave has always had a soft spot for me, just a beautiful collection of small businesses and a huge variety of goodies, bars, and restaurants. You could spend a whole day just checking out all the shops, and make your way to Downtown too! Especially with all of the new local murals popping up on every street.
I’m not a huge outdoorsy person, but there are so many wonderful desert scenes here in town it’s hard to not take it in. Gates Pass is one of my favorite spots, just quiet and peaceful with a gorgeous view. The Sonoran Desert Museum is also a great day trip idea, you really gain an appreciation for how amazing the desert is.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To Tucson!! My family, friends, memories, everything comes from this town I love so much!
