We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanjay Kailayanathan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanjay, how does your business help the community?
I created this product to make a difference in the lives of those in need. I am passionate about this cause, as I have seen firsthand how much more difficult life can be for someone with disabilities relying on traditional methods of controlling a motor vehicle.
I first started driving using hand controls during my time at University. After I began driving using hand controls, I realized that the current systems had no options in place to safely and effectively operate secondary vehicular functions such as turn signals, wipers, lights, etc. As a result, I started to work on creative solutions to this problem which has shaped the development of our technology that would allow drivers with disabilities greater control over their vehicles simply by using facial gestures or using voice commands.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was initially drawn to software engineering because I wanted to apply technology in groundbreaking ways. My passion for cars quickly took root and with that, my dream of creating a product or service related to the automotive world emerged. It soon became a personal mission for me, creating something that would have an impact on people’s lives and make a difference in the industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve never been to Phoenix personally, but I will visit a good friend of mine, Anthony Lue, in the near future and will definitely be visiting some of his favourite spots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to my dad. I will never forget how I felt when my dad first told me to pursue my dreams and create a business of my own. His words made me feel inspired and courageous like I could do anything. That was the moment that sparked what soon became this amazing product.
We had many conversations about why providing people with solutions for their daily struggles is important. I knew he was right and that it would be a success if I could develop something that genuinely helped people.
