We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Creative Waves was about being able to indulge in our creative sides by building something of our own while helping others to build their own businesses. We have similar backgrounds – Erika in Marketing, Promotion, and Graphic Design, myself in Communications, Social Media, and Web Design. It was the perfect combination that allowed us to start Creative Waves and build a business around creativity and helping others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creative Waves Studio is a creative agency specializing in Social Media Management, Web Design, and Branding. We work with business owners, usually start-ups, to help them create the online presence they need and desire in order to grow their businesses. From creating an in-depth social media strategy, web design, content creation, and outbound engagement, we consider ourselves a part of our client’s team as we want to see them and their business become as successful as they imagine themselves to be.

Starting and growing a business is hard work. You have to be willing to show up every single day, even when you don’t want to, and put in the work that is necessary to grow. It’s not easy because no one is there telling you to do something, you have to be your own motivation, and you have to have a passion for and believe in what you are doing/creating.

Everyone starts a business for their own reasons, so when you are faced with an obstacle or challenge you have to be willing to push through and remind yourself of that reason. Being in Social Media, we see people starting businesses every single day and a lot of them give up too quickly. We want to help people succeed and not give up by giving them an online presence that they don’t have to worry or stress out about – they can focus on their reason for starting the business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona is such an amazing place to visit, but I always encourage people to come around springtime because it is by far the best time of year out here. So with it being spring, I would definitely recommend heading to Old Town Scottsdale and watching a Spring Training game at the Scottsdale Stadium. Either before or after the game, enjoy a drink at Old Town Tavern and listen to the live music, then taking some time to meander the streets of Old Town and visiting all the shops. Nightlife in Old Town is also not to be missed if you are looking for a fun night out. There definitely has to be an early morning hike up Camelback Mountain followed by brunch on the patio at OHSO in Arcadia, a day trip to Sedona to take in the amazing scenery and hike yourself into a vortex, and definitely, a spa day at Camelback Inn needs to be on the itinerary as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I’d like to Shoutout our customers who have put their trust in us to help them grow their business and create on their behalf. Secondly, our business coach Marcus of BlindSide has helped guide us in successfully starting the business and getting us out of our comfort zones in order to grow the business. And last, but not least, our families have supported us and given us the space to build and grow Creative Waves.
