We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelbi Kate and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelbi, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my opinion, risk does not come without the acknowledgment of fear. If it wasn’t something that we felt vulnerable or slightly afraid of, it wouldn’t be a risk at all! With that being said, the role that taking risks and overcoming fear in my career has been highly at play. When first starting Shelbi Kate Fitness, LLC I was filled with excitement. All I saw was opportunity and endless ways for me to finally share my creativity to the online social media world. However, as I developed deeper into this calling of mine, I obviously came across a lot of failures, a lot of what felt like wasted hours and a ton of “bigger than what I can handle” moments. As much as it sucked being in those times of doubt, failure and disbelief, I learned what I think is the most valuable lesson when it comes to chasing your dreams; Do it despite the fear and maintain a humble confidence that if you believe it, you will achieve it. Nothing in life comes easy, but doubting ourselves will only make it harder. We need to believe that we are far more capable than we know and the only way to figure out our depth is to GO there and see what we are made of. And as someone who has gone there and will continue to go there, I can promise you that it is worth it, it is a process and you never fully “make it” you just keep choosing to believe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I never thought that I would actually use my college degree of Exercise Science, but here we are 4 years later putting that college money to good use! My job is three fold: I work with the geriatric community 3x/week as their personal trainer/therapist I work with the Parkinson’s Community 2x/week as their class instructor I work on the online space with women to help them achieve a better relationship with food and exercise My weeks are incredibly busy and filled with many moving parts, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I knew I could never sit behind a desk and work for someone else — I was too creative for that! Shelbi Kate Fitness, LLC is a personal training business birthed from my desire to work in the geriatric community and help out as much as I could with their golden years. As my love for them grew, I started to lean more into Parkinson’s disease as I realized that this was a huge issues within the community I was serving. After finding the PWR! Moves gym (a gym specifically oriented around helping people with Parkinsons) I got certified to be a coach and have fallen even more in love with this community. As wonderful as life was, 2020 had a way of uprooting it all. After COVID hit, my personal training dreams were put on hold as the geriatric community was the highest risk. It was during this time that I realized I needed to adapt and overcome, and that is when my online business came to life. On May 18, 2020 I launched my online business Shelbi Kate Fitness and began doing online training with the elderly and online fat loss and strength coaching for women. During my entire journey, I felt the Lord telling me he desired me to be more than just a trainer, but a catalyst for people to reach their fullest potential in all areas of their life. That is where the “TRIA (tree-ah): 3E’s Mission” of Shelbi Kate Fitness was born. The mission of Shelbi Kate Fitness is to educate, empower and encourage women to reach their fullest potential in life through health and wellness coaching (hence the 3E’s Mission). The word TRIA is the greek word for the number “three” and it symbolizes the unity of mind, body and spirit. I chose this word to represent my brand because it describes my heart perfectly. I don’t want to just focus on you as a body, I want to focus on you as a whole. Real life change doesn’t come from fat loss, it comes from mental, emotional and spiritual freedom that allows you to make smart and healthy decisions for your body. Shelbi Kate Fitness started as a dream and it has become a life changing reality for me and many other women and geriatric individuals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If and when my best friend visits the area, our day would be jam packed with fun! We would start at my favorite locally owned coffee shop. Blessed Grounds and transition to my favorite restaurant the Nook. We would then take a trip up to Show Low where we would stay in a cabin, go on a horse back ride and eat at Cattleman’s. A fun week no doubt! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others.
