We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheridan Cahoon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheridan, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That taking care of your personal health is not only needed as an entrepreneur but one of the most important things to help your business grow. The thought of taking a step back from your business, if you are facing burnout, stress, or being overwhelmed, or just needing time away from your projects, can lead to a sense of failure or guilt but it shouldn’t. You walking away from your business or career for a little while does not mean that you immediately lost and it’s done isn’t true. I learned to look at both my career or business in a way that they are a part of me and will be there throughout my whole life, ready for me to keep going on them when I am ready to. And once you personally feel good it’s easier to rock your goals and dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an outdoor brand photographer, coffee creator, and world traveler. Each of those aspects are intertwined with the direction my life has been going the past handful of years. Travel started everything, I went from being a person that had never left home until I was 25, to have it influence me beyond anything I would have ever thought possible. But it has also been a cause of a lot of pain. I have been injured three times while being abroad, all three of those were bad enough to break bones but two of them were quite severe and the last one I am very grateful to be alive from the accident. (my Tuk-Tuk taxi driver head-on collided with a motorcyclist) Travel was also what brought an ex-partner of mine and I together, which lead to my initial direction of being a travel blogger and photographer, that ended with heartache, but the thing about having a passion is perseverance. I think that most creators can relate to the fact that building a business can tend to encompass your whole life and a lot of sacrifices have to happen to keep pursuing it. I love it though, I can say that I have learned so much over the years and developed quite a range of skills and experiences.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Phoenix offers so much diversity, you could get real country and head up to Cave Creek or lost in nature just south of the city. Personally, I have a blast between Downtown and west to the I-17. I would always tell a friend to try and show up for First Friday on Roosevelt so we could grab some food, grab some good eats, and check out the street artists and musicians playing. For me that is where the vibe is, I am all about cafes and eccentricities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ooo I would like to give my Shoutout to my old roommate, friend, and general supporter for working towards my dreams, Mehdi – He himself is a visionary and high-impact person that works hard and is full of passion. Based in Indonesia he is doing great things through Bali Content and The Community Creatives, both creative outlets that bring people together that enjoy photography.
