Meet Shirell Green | Children’s Sensory Stylist & Autism advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with shirell green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi shirell, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever made was leaving my 9 to 5 job. Having that steady income and reassurance of steady work kept me going for only so long. I’ve always had a desire to build my own brand and business but when I decided to jump off the cliff, I found that there is no turning back! So, I kept pursing my dream and now my small business is successful. Sometimes in life you have to just jump into your future. With business there’s no guarantees that you will make income consistently but if you keep moving forward you will find a bigger reward. With myself being a single mom, I found and discovered that corporate America is not cut out for single mothers! from finding a job that will provide a great work-life-balance, to being 100% provider and sol-caretaker is a lot to single handedly juggle. So when I started Hope Haircuts, I gave myself that freedom I needed to succeed financially and in motherhood. So, the real question is why I waited so long! I would do it all over again it was the best decision I ever made.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hope Haircuts started back in 2019 with just 2 clients. The sol-purpose of this business is to help families with children with Special needs and or Autism, whom at times have a difficult time transitioning into a normal barber and or salon setting. So my company provides a in-home service and we focus on things like sensory, anxiety with kids helping them through this service in a fun and playful way. We as caretakers have to understand that individuals with disabilities are not going to be young forever! So, teaching them things like hygiene and keeping up a haircut and explaining and showing that this service is not scary at all is what its all about. Eventually one day the child can positively transition back into the salon environment and feel safe and comfortable.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best-friend knows im a full-time mom and always busy, so my favorite spot to hang out at is West-Gate entertain district! We could have yummy food at the yard house restaurant or enjoy music and drinks at the local bars. Most of the time I have my Child with me so we love to lay out on the lawn and listen to live music while she plays in the open splash pad.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My clients deserve every shout-out because every week they encourage me and supported me and my family, they share and recommended me so many times and I’m forever grateful.
