Meet Silvia Miranda | Law School Student and Paralegal

We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvia Miranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silvia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I have definitely shifted my perspective on balance over time. Right now with law school and being a paralegal I have to incorporate yoga and exercise into my life in order to come back to my center. I do believe balance is important to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know that I grew up in a third world country, Honduras as a black garifuna girl. My parents come from underrepresented and poor backgrounds. They moved to the city of San Pedro Sula, where I have lived my whole life and studied. To say it was hard to get a bilingual education in Honduras would be an understatement. When I started Law School at the National Autonomous University of Honduras I did felt lost. My dream had always been to study outside the country, but my financial resources were so limited, I had to study at the public university. Along the way, I have faced many trials and hardships but I have found myself in my law carreer. I truly believe this is what I am destined to do and I love my paralegal job. Now, I have a financial freedom that I did not had 5 or 7 years ago. I still have a long way to go, but my law carreer is just starting.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You cannot leave town without trying our famous and delicious pollo chuco (dirty chicken). It’s basically fried chicken with fried green bananas and dressings on top of it. There are multiple great spots around town where you can try it from.
Next you have to go to one of my favorite bars, Limon, located near the heart of the city you will have a great time.
During the daytime if you want to visit downtown and get to know the markets, I can take you on a walk near the park so you can experience the true local life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the vision, goals, love and mentorship from my mom, Silvia Loredo. She is my rock and has guided me everystep of the way, from mom, to boss all the way to colleague. She is the one who has impulsed me to believe in myself, to develop my abilities, and to aim as high as I can in life.
