We had the good fortune of connecting with Steezy Fresh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steezy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I just knew that establishing a music production business would separate me from a lot of musicians in the industry because most artist don’t even have a real idea of how the game works. Now everything I invest into from features, beats, studio time, equipment, to music video props are all a business write off to where I can obtain a certain percentage back on taxes. Overall, I knew when forming Brainwash Productions that I would have a platform to put my close homies on!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sad to say, I have this Adidas bag… (cause I’m really team Nike) but in this Adidas bag are notebooks filled with lyrics that I’ve written since as early as 6th grade… I’m not some random person who just woke up one day and said, “I’m going to be a rapper today.” I’ve been writing music and freestyling since middle school. Obviously everything then wasn’t Lil Wayne “The Block Is Hot” but it was my still something dope enough to work off of. So, over time my craft only got better… Therefore, what separates me from other artist this industry is that I’m not new to this, I’m true to this!

To get to where I am now took a lot of time, money and thinking. It wasn’t the most easy being as I didn’t have the most money to invest into equipment wise or forming a business. I didn’t have access to audio engineers who could actually mix and master my songs. I never really even owned or had leasing rights to a beat to distribute as my work of art. So, as some years passed I ended up getting a graphic design job to where I then had enough money to invest. I then formed my LLC and opened up the business bank account to where everything could be accounted for on a legal/professional level. This was an exciting moment in my music career, because I knew moving forward people would take me more serious as an independent artist and that I would have a foundation to work off of.

I wouldn’t call this part a lesson, but it is something I’ve noticed over time with artists… If you don’t think outside the box and make songs and visuals that have a real artistry feel to them you will never separate yourself from other artist because you will all be doing the same shit. So, my advice to other artists is keep it original!

However, what I want the world to know about me is that I have always been someone who believed in international peace with a world full of unity no matter the ethnic background. I have a clothing line called No Limitations. I formed this clothing line to represent the people who have a limitless mindset and who are judge free of one another. I’m not somebody who promotes hate or violence… I’m someone who promotes helping one another, good energy and creating dope shit! I express myself through music because it’s good for my mental health. So, I then formed a music business called Brainwash Productions. Now, I let the world know how I feel through songs by recording music on a professional level. I always been one to dream big since a kid and with all this motivation and creativity and I don’t think it will stop until I’m dead!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend used to live here in Tucson with me but he moved to Fort Worth, Texas a few years ago. However, this dude is straight from the Southside. So, he already knows what the vibes are out here. He’s been to all the house parties with me since a kid, all sorts of shit! So, if my best friend was to pull up here in town we would probably just smoke ourselves into a weed coma at the crib. After, cooking up some hot shit in the studio because he makes music too. We’re not into all that clubbing and partying shit too much anymore! We rather create some music to look back on vs just blacking out! Although, we will celebrate and do it big once we start hitting these mile stones to celebrate our accomplishments and life!

But when them munchies kick in we definitely hit up Cheba Hut, or any Mexican joint! Some of the best Corn Tortilla tacos are out here in Tucson at Taqueria Pico de Gallo. So, we would stay smacking on some Mexican grub. But my best friend is honestly one of the most dopest people I know. Dude always has a realistic positive outlook on things and lights up a room every-time he is in it with his humor.

However, Tucson has blown up over time to where the downtown scene has taken off from what it was before. We have been known to party our asses off out here, because we have the University of Arizona too. Although, we you need to get away from the city we have some nice desert mountains for you to take a hike on. The city has everything you need and everything you don’t need as well. 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give this Shoutout to everyone who ever believed in me and everyone who NEVER believed in me. I used hate and mix it with love to create motivation! I fed off Ludacris growing up as a kid and had support from my parents. I just know that if anyone is getting some credit and a Shoutout it’s going to be my parents, Ludacris, my believers and last but not least my haters!
