We had the good fortune of connecting with Lety Elle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lety, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Tucson is growing fast. I felt that the demographic for the community is changing right a long with the population of the city. Tucson did not have a large selection of Natural Hair Stylist. Tucson especially did not have any Hair specialists that cater to a particular communtiy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a natural born artist. i began drawing, coloring, painting, when I was very young. I continued to develop entering competitions, freelance projects, and later pursued teaching. As I matured my goals changed and so did my living situation and I turned to styling as a thing I did for extra money. Braiding hair, hair maintenance, natural hair care education was not a profession that I saw myself getting into as living. After tens of tens of administrative and factory jobs, I relocted to Arizona my hometown. I did start by going back to the office at first working for Pima county estates, Tucson Water, Sherrin Williams etc. I was surfing the internet in the Facebook group and saw there was a callong for natural hair stylist and i took on the position. In thinking that I did need training, I accepted an apprentice position. I quickly learned I am experienced enough to venture on my own. I began traveling and developing my clientele to now. I am now employed for myself and have my own facility.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places to eat and drink are everywhere. Tucson has a vast variety of foods from different cultures. I like cafe desta for ethopian and meditteranean food. Then there are the mountains. You can always go to the mountains without a guide. Pack a lunch drive to the bottom of the mountain and start walking. So Desert Museum is a good place for desert hiking and sights. I enjoy lodging at El Conquistador. The view is out of this world and the food is good at the bar and restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So a lot of credit goes to my ambition. I came to Arizona with the thought process I would make a change. I wanted to make a change in my life and i am making a change in the community. That is a large scale. So if any recognition is due, my AMBITION gets all the props. My ambition has burned me and inspired me to want to expand into a field I did not have any knowledge about. I have this amazing clientele of individuals that are down-to-earth, sincere, and practical. This has allowed me to expand from apprentiship to my own facility.
