We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven James Alesna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steven James, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor for my success is resiliency and sticking with daily routines and habits. There are days that make you want to quit as it gets overwhelming (starting on your own) but, showing up and doing what you need to do has its rewards. I can relate this with two wisdom I had from my friend and a coach in our gym:

One is “to break a mountain, you need to break little pieces.”. That means that in order to overcome big tasks, we should approach it by doing little tasks. Two (is the most important one), “it’s the hard days that count”, show up on difficult days! It could be rewarding. All you need is 1% everyday, sum up to 365 days, you get 365% chance for success!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the founder and head consultant of Physiofix: Professional Pain Specialist located in Cebu City, Philippines. I have been a physical therapist for 5 years where I took my time to experiment on the broad spectrum of different techniques, learning what works for me and what is most helpful for my clients.

I believe that what makes Physiofix PTs stand out from the others is that: we listen to our clients and provide what they need to manage their pain. I take pride in this skill, as this has helped me develop my skills in treatment.

The practice started out when Coach AC offered me to set up a small clinic in Crossfit Subtero back in January 2019. At first it started easy, getting patients on a daily basis but it got to the point that I wasn’t generating income. I cannot forget I had zero on my account after paying the initial investments and had to borrow 500 Philippine pesos ($10) from my mother after I had an emotional breakdown. Ever since then I learned to push myself to my limits and showed up everyday. One thing I struggled in the past was procrastinating, but I had learned to navigate through this and use it to my advantage.

Just showing up with or without clients, hoping for the best and clutching through the days, weeks and months. Never afraid to make mistakes and taking risks! 3 years later, Physiofix is in a better location, bigger space and more inviting for clients to come!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my best friend to try out Cebu’s Lechon (roasted pork) known for its savory meat and extra crispy skin! As a nature-lover and having the thirst for adventure, I would invite my friend on a motorcycle trip going to the Northern part of Cebu to Bantayan Island, 4 hours away from the city. It’s the perfect place to unwind on the famous sugar-sand beaches and bask in the warmth of the sun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Firstly I want to thank myself for showing up on the hard days!

Secondly, I want to give a shout out to Crossfit Subtero’s head coach, Albert Christian Co for giving me this business opportunity and mentoring me to be the man I am now.

I also want to thank my family, my fiancee Reen, friends and new the staff for providing all the emotional and mental support I need to get through

Lastly, the author James Clear for making the book Atomic Habits. This has helped me to grow and develop healthy routines.
