We had the good fortune of connecting with T R U V O N N E and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi T R U V O N N E, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has been at the forefront of my entire time in being a creative. I remember when I was starting and writing on guitar and trying to reach out to producers and have some time to collaborate and realizing that I was not going to get the time of day. I received a little Ableton lite production kit and went from there. Everything was an experiment, everything was produced by me so nothing was really packaged it was kinda what it was going to be if that makes sense. The sounds I was using were randomly created synths on sounds engines, A lot of things that I used it was just seeing if it fit or if it made sense and you know a lot of trial and error. I also think that’s why with my sound I actually have something that you might be able to recognize that does sound a bit different and not as packaged. It has definitely developed into something where I am able to create what I am thinking. I can actually have an idea and put it down. Seeing the difference is unreal. I think the most exciting part of all of this is I have such a long way to go and I have so much more to learn, which is just so exciting.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the divide begins with independence. I am fortunate enough to have a lot of creative liberty in the creative process. There was so much trial and error in the beginning because I just started producing with a midi keyboard and stock sounds and you really are just figuring it out. I listened to some of the stuff I made at the beginning and my goodness lol I was like man I thought I was really doin something lol But now I feel like whatever emotion I am feeling, I can express that feeling and I can put it down on paper and on an empty canvas and just expand that simple Idea in to something beautiful. I truly want the music to be an overall experience. That’s also why visuals are a huge part of this process. Hopefully they will have a piece of the process with the different mediums as well as feeling kinda like they wrote the song with me. If you can tell a story in multiple different ways, perception can reach a wider range of people and emotion. I think because of that, some of the opportunities I have been able to get as a professional is because of the sound that I have created over time. They know that it’s me and reach out because that is what they are looking for so that feels very rewarding knowing that my music, at the root, is very experimental. With the brand of the music that’s what I want, is for it to be atmospheric, and extremely ambiguous with it’s interpretation that way it can be perceived as whatever the listener is experiencing or going through at that moment. I want the sounds, the vocals, everything to melt into each other, and literally generate an emotion just from pitch, chords and tonality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh Man… So I love to eat. Anyone and everyone will tell you that. SOOOO a lot of what we would be doing is food hopping. I think we would have to start with bottomless mimosas at Hash Kitchen in Chandler and just start it off there, it’s always packed so sneakers on for the wait lol Probably from there so we can digest go to a museum, maybe the phoenix art museum. At night we could go to crescent which personally is one of my favorite places to go, to eat and just have a whole vibe. There is always someone playing there or an event that is going on. I would definitely wanna go down to Sedona and just have our energy reset and recharge for maybe a couple of days. Do some hiking. Maybe even some Reiki or something like that. Really get spiritual lol Half way through the week go to the botanical gardens. Honestly I think the maybe going to chase field and eating there, like a restaurant over looking the field is always really cool so I think that that would be a good thing to do at night. I think that will probably tire us out for a little and wrap up the week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Dr. Evan Tobias from ASU school of Music, I have been fortunate enough to be able to collaborate and work with them in developing curriculum for popular music and alternative music production into schools as a part of the J Dilla foundation and it has just been a wonderful experience that has routed me in directions I didn’t even know were possible and doing things I never thought I would have the opportunity to do. So for that I am extremely grateful.
