We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatum Nies and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatum, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I’d be my own boss someday, however I didn’t expect for it to happen so soon at the age of 22. I was working for a company where I learned how to do lashes, and I LOVED it there… until I didn’t. Unfortunately my first experience in the beauty industry wasn’t a great one. Over the course of my first year doing lashes I was very unhappy in my work situation. To the point where I had to put myself in a position where I had NO CHOICE but to create my own business. It was 2017, the Tuesday after Christmas, and i quit cold turkey. I had NO plan, and I took 10 days to game plan my next move, I purchased products, rented my own space, and slowly Get it Girl Lashes was created.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Get it Girl Beauty was built on a dream. A motivated young single mom who needed to be able to provide for herself & child. I wanted to create a space that gave woman the opportunity to believe in their beauty and themselves. A brand that will encourage other woman to work hard and build their dream business! A place where every diverse woman is welcome to feel beautiful. It’s time to stop comparing & understand that your beauty comes within. I’m proud to say I’ve created a space for women to encourage other women to be the most honest version of themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Early morning hiking around the valley, then we’d head to a fun brunch spot in Old Town Scottsdale like The Hot Chick or Zuzu at Hotel Valley Ho. I love taking weekend trips to Sedona, and checking out the winery at Page Springs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My best friend Rhiannon Smith pushed and encouraged me to create my own beauty out of a toxic situation. Nancy at Phenix Salon Suites was able to work with me on renting a new space & gave me the tools to start up my business without an extreme amount of pressure. Leata Owner of Laleleilash and Beauty Bar has created a positive environment and allowed my business to grow into a brand.
