We had the good fortune of connecting with The Band Kris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Band Kris, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Ah, this might be our biggest challenge…

When you work with your bandmate, who’s also your best friend, who’s also your sister…it’s hard to know where to draw the line between work and play. We can be writing a song together after a long recording day and some might say that we never stop working…..but do we? Is it work or play? The lines are really blurred, and that’s what makes it a bigger challenge for us.

So, if we are being fully transparent, we have a lot of work to do in this area of our lives. It’s been a lot of trial and error…a LOT of error, but we have found that little things like pausing to go sit down at the table for dinner help us shift from work mode to being present.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Heyyyoo it’s Jami and Dani, better known as The Band Kris! We are a pop music sister duo usually writing 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 about 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 because we are 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺 dramatic & 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 sensitive⁣⁣! In other words, we are overly obsessed with songwriting, which we were never shy about opening up our songbook and sharing a song on our social media (@thebandkris) the same day we finished writing it. This led to our fans naming us the ‘Queens of Petty’ because our songs became so obviously specific; it was clearly about something that upset us the day before, haha.

Our band officially started in 2014, after writing a song to our older brother, Kris, who passed away before getting to fulfill his lifelong music dream. The same night we wrote that song, ‘Dear Kris,’ we decided to name our band after him and we’ve been ‘The Band Kris’ ever since! And to be totally honest, our journey has been A LOT of trial and error, and doing things that are uncomfortable and embarrassing over and over again, but it helps knowing that we’ve got our angel right there with us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we think our sister’s backyard in Queen Creek, Arizona is paradise on Earth… Floating in her pool, with the scenery of the desert, and the Saguaro cactus, it’s our favorite!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our Dad!

So, this year we got to check off something that we had dreamt of since we were kids…hearing our song on the radio! It was so much more nerve-wracking than we imagined (in the BEST way, obviously) because we were scheduled to be interviewed live on air before our song premiered. We knew our dad would be at work during that time, so we understood why he wouldn’t be able to tune in. So, when we called him immediately after our radio debut to tell him all about it, we found out that he had made arrangements to step out of work just to hear us on the radio for the first time.

Our dad isn’t the type to praise people or express his support with words. Instead, he shows it through his actions. And we just want him to know that we notice every single thing he does to SHOW his support, without him ever having to say it in words.
