We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany England and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what inspires you?
I’ve always been inspired by the world around me, not only nature, but by other peoples creations. Seeing what other artists create really inspires me to make my own worlds. I make sure to have stimuli from various sources, be it books, paintings, movies, etc… Sometimes I’ll make a mood board on Pinterest of things that get me excited and use that to start a project. Right now, I am really into Brian Froud’s watercolor fairies and early 20th century magazine covers. I am cooking up some designs to make a coloring book that combines both those elements, but with my own style and twist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been an independent artist since 2008 and I love what I do. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration at Laguna College of Art & Design and since then my work has appeared in books, magazines and much more. A majority of my work is illustrating stories inspired by nature, folklore and fairytales. Currently, I am also working as a tattoo apprentice under the very talented Feliz Manzanedo, at Modern Craft Tattoo in Prescott, Arizona. It is an absolute dream to come into work each day and be inspired by all the wonderful artist in our shop.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best place in Prescott to visit is probably all the hiking trails, especially during the monsoon season. You want to be careful of the flash floods, but if you get the right season, the trails are full of a variety of mushrooms. Most people don’t expect to see much of anything in Arizona because it’s a desert, but up in the high desert, you get a lovely mix of cacti and pine trees.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to Feliz Manzanedo at Modern Craft Tattoos for the opportunity to pursue a tattoo apprenticeship. It has been the most rewarding, as well as the most humbling experience in my adult life. I never imagined myself, at nearly forty, pursuing the field of tattooing.
