Meet Tobias Hatcher | Bbq pit-master, Homesteader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tobias Hatcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tobias, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by the strong men throughout history. The men that did the right thing simply because it was right, not because it was easy.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started making my BBQ sauce because I wasn’t a fan of any sauces in the store. They were all too sweet and contained high fructose corn syrup or other ingredients that are not desirable. I was mostly making it for home but as I shared it with friends and family I began to tweak the recipe based on the feedback I received. The final result after about 2 years is Hatcher Shack’s signature bbq sauce. At that time I was making and selling the sauce occasionally in mason jars. Then in 2019 I was asked to provide over 700, 12 once bottles of bbq sauce to be distributed in gift baskets with other items around Arizona. Seeing the great opportunity that this was to grow my business I decided to level up and invest in the things to make sure I met the demand. After I had began purchasing materials and equipment, designing the label, doing the nutrition facts, etc, the deal fell through. At the time I was dispatching medical helicopters and it was that company’s Public Relations representative that attempted to buy my sauce for the gift baskets. Although it was approved by my director the administration of the company decided there was a conflict of interest so that opportunity vanished. But since I had already committed financially and had spent so much energy I readjusted my plan. I began selling my sauce at farmer’s markets and other community events fairly successfully but I quickly realized that there was an actual demand for not just homemade bbq sauce but for great bbq as well. So I started selling pulled pork by the pound and then as sandwiches. Then brisket and sausage and so forth. When November 2021 came the company I was working for mandated vaccines and I knew that my time there was done. Since then I have been expanding Hatcher Shack into catering and private events. God willing I will be able to add a spicy bbq, honey bbq, teriyaki, dry rubs and other recipes for a whole line of Hatcher Shack items. The business is still quite new so I have also worked as a ranch hand, meat cutter, and at lumber mill to supplement my income for now. On my homestead I currently have goats and chickens and a pig. We will also have a cow for A2-A2 milk. Eventually I would like to make a bbq sauce that is directly made from my gardens. The future looks bright.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t actually get out much. My free time is spent on my homestead with my wife and five children. Gardening and playing with animals. That being said I am a part of a worldwide community of like minded people called Beartaria. So if I could travel around I would love to be able to bounce from place to place and meet some of those old friends for the first time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All credit and glory goes to God
