Meet Toni (Tonisha) McSwain | Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Toni (Tonisha) McSwain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Toni (Tonisha), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was there are girls that will encounter the struggles I encountered at a young age and they will need someone to be there to help them through and build them up.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My 9 to 5 I work as a Guidance Paraprofessional for Primavera online high school. But most importantly I am the Founder and a Mentor for Divine Movement a 5013c non-profit organization. I have known since the age of 15 that my purpose was to help build the youth. It has not been easy as I have had many struggles growing up myself by making poor choices that in a lot of cases could have killed me. Now that I understand that I had to go through those things to help others it is my life’s journey to help these young ladies understand their worth and true potential. And to help them avoid some of the hardships I got myself into. What I have learned along the way is that I am not alone and that I deserve the best that the world has to offer. My heart is for all youth and teen girls but foster kids hold a very special place to me. What I want the world to know about my story is through the adversity, the struggle, the domestic abuse and so many other hurdles I am still standing and made a vow to Foster Self Assurance in the life of every child that I am blessed to Mentor.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In a week long visit I would take my best friend several places. We would visit different restaurants each day starting with Southern Rail, Society by Evo, Sea and Smoke Mesquite Seafood Grill, Chic Chef Cafe, Papadeaux, Kings Fish House and The Keg. Things we would do would be go to some of the city parks and take pictures, find a show or two to attend, go to a paint and sip, go skating, bowling and go to serve at Genesis Project. And finish it up by a trip to Sedona and Antelope Canyon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to my mom Bonita Harris who has ALWAYS encouraged me to follow my dreams and pushed me to be the change. I also want to Shout out Woman of Purpose National United States Pageant, Director Simone Davis for giving me a platform to share my Organization with the community! Both my mom and Simone saw my vision to build the youth in our community and supported me 100%
