We had the good fortune of connecting with Torri Bendel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Torri, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I want my children to know that you have to work hard for the things you are passionate about and believe in. I want them to see that no matter how tough life got, their mom always worked hard and never gave up, while continuing to put them first. It’s important to me that they know that success doesn’t come from schooling or a degree, but in what they did with their life, how they treated people and how hard they worked. I hope they see that I pursued my dreams and passions, made them breakfast and all the in between and after I put them to bed, spent more time working and chasing those dreams! Have the courage to face the fears and push past them and reach for the stars!! One day they will see that every decision I made was for or because of them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I worked for a large national bank for 11 years. While it was a stable job with decent pay, I always knew that I wanted something more. Some way to pursue my passions and make my own schedule. I found health and fitness after spending most of my 20’s on the couch. I really enjoyed working out and eating clean! One of my favorite things was making very tasty yet healthy recipes. Thus began my passion in natural health. Having a passion for helping others was always in my heart, so I jumped in and became a health & fitness coach for a large at-home fitness company. I really enjoyed it but could never separate the personal feelings to make it a “business”. That’s just who I am, I cared about each person I helped and not how to create this huge team working for me. After about 7 years, I realized it wasn’t serving my life any further and I gave that up. I hated it, but knew it was for the best (I’m not a quitter), that was my first experience learning it’s OKAY to quit something that isn’t serving your life anymore! During the coaching job, I had my first 2 children. My first child was very colicky for 11 months and was always sick. I was understandably also very run down so I was also always sick. Bronchitis, strep throat, the list goes on and on. I started researching everything I could and got even more into natural health during that time. When she was 2, I learned about Elderberries and their major benefits to the immune system and allergies. With my love of being in the kitchen creating new things, I made an Elderberry Syrup and started giving it to myself and 2 children. Our health did a complete 180! The first year we were sick 2 times, and both times it was very mild. Not one Dr visit. A few months after I quit my coaching job, I decided to see if I could sell some Elderberry Syrup locally to help with finances. It took off! People saw the huge benefits to colds and flu that they referred everyone they knew to me!
I have worked incredibly hard for 5 years to establish and grow my business. A lot of late nights, babysitters, 7 days a week, etc… I have learned that you need to always be learning or you get stagnant in life. Always be pushing for more! I source all natural and organic ingredients when possible. I take great pride in all the products my company makes. If I wouldn’t put it on or in our bodies, then I won’t sell it. For us now, Dr visit never happens for illness. I am off all allergy medications. It is amazing what is natural in this world that is a remedy for so many things!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would do a lot of hiking! The West Baldy trail in the White Mountains is my heaven on earth. I visit there with and without my kids at least a few times every summer. Bring your water shoes because walking in the river is part of the fun! We can eat breakfast at Darbi’s in Pinetop, lunch at Persnikkity’s, and dinner at The House (they have live music and a large outdoor area which I love!). I do have to say I’m more of a morning person, so I love the hiking the most. I also love researching and trying to find old Indian ruins in the area. Greer is an amazing little town and if it’s in August, you can hike along the creek and pick wild raspberries! Horseback riding at Snowy Mountain Stables near Sunrise Ski Resort is a must as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the amazing people that aren’t afraid to chase their dreams, whether it be popular belief (or not). Those who have endured ridicule or people making fun of the dreams they were chasing after. I have received inspiration from so many sources! From books (Dave Ramsey to Chalene Johnson), to podcasts (ranging from lifestyle to business building to marketing), to my holistic practitioner Tammy, to my children! To my amazing fiance Scott, who is my cheerleader and massive support!
