Meet Traci Terrick | Artist Agent and Founder of Focus on Women

We had the good fortune of connecting with Traci Terrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Traci Terrick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This was started as a marketing idea for my creative agency and thought it would just be one happy hour get together, except the demand for making it something more made it impossible to walk away.

What should our readers know about your business?
Focus on Women was founded as a marketing event initially for my other business, Poppy Creative Agency. However, once I saw the turnout and enthusiasm for creating a space where female-identifying creatives in the commercial photography industry could come and share stories I knew I was on to something good.
Our organization offers female-identifying creatives a place to get a mentor, learn more about their craft, ask questions around rates, contracts, etc. Our podcast, with over 150 episodes makes me so happy as I was the last person one would ever have thought to have a podcast and yet it’s connected me with amazing women and incredible journey stories to share.
This community is fueling so many people in so many ways and we see the potential for becoming educators in our field along with mentors and advocates.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Hudson Valley is filled with some incredible places, our go to places include Olana Historical Park where we walk our dogs whenever given the chance. Then a breakfast at Willa’s in Catskill can’t be missed, nor should his chocolate babka! If we want to see art, love a hike through Art Omi as well, incredible outdoor art gallery. Must see the bar at The Maker in Hudson and dine at Feast and Floret for some incredible home made pasta and a floral bouquet to take home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to include my two co-founders of FOW – Mary Dail, Founder of Big Leo Productions and Juliette Wolfe the National Executive Director at American Photographic Artists
