We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerry Parker Micheaels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kerry, what do you attribute your success to?
When I started out, I was pretty clear in my goal that if a client hired me to take their photos, I wanted it to be because they wanted ME specifically, and not just any photographer. I have worked really hard to bring a specific style and type of client experience that I hope sets me apart. I think it is important in art to recognize that not everyone is going to want what you do. But for the people that it speaks to, you are their ideal person. Working with me is a very personal experience, and I have worked hard to emphasize that to prospective clients. Now, usually by the time people reach out to me, most people say something along the lines of, I absolutely love your style, or we already know we really want you to be our wedding photographer. For me, it’s been a factor of getting really personal and intentional with my brand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an elopement and wedding photographer, and I focus on capturing authentic emotions with a unique style. As with so many things in art, my journey so far has been a process of discovering my style and what kind of work I wanted to put out into the world. Photography is very much about storytelling, and it is extremely important to me that I do justice to the stories I am hired to capture. When people look at my work, I want them to really feel something, and it is always my hope that I am able to bring a unique perspective that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved in a photograph. Being a creative is certainly an emotional journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places: Desert Botanical Gardens, Top Golf, Lucky Strike, The Van Buren Food/Drink: Chula Seafood, Ocotillo Restaurant, Restaurant Progress, Ladera, Fame Cafe, Persepshen, Valley Bar, The Duce
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
