We had the good fortune of connecting with Vashaun Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vashaun, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I take many risks. I never know if I’m moving in the right direction, but I trust my gut, I trust what I’ve learned along the way, and I go for it. If something isn’t working I learn from that and I pivot.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own Gossamer Jewels. It’s a trendy jewelry line for the modern generation. We’re black owned and based in Los Angeles. Our motto is to “Embrace your girly side”, meaning everyone has a fun girly side, and our jewelry helps bring that out of them. Growing the business was not easy, but it wasn’t impossible. It took research, dedication, the love and support of friends and family; but most importantly belief in myself. My proudest moment was seeing my ring in one of my favorite artists tour poster. That was so surreal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Easy! I’m from Milwaukee, so friends visit frequently. First we brunch! Somewhere beautiful like Openaire, or a cute spot in Silver Lake. Then we beach – Manhattan is my favorite. I have a 2yr old, and he loves to chase the waves. Then we dance! Earry Hall throws some of the best gatherings with people that I love. Somewhere in there we’d go to a gallery,I love The Underground museum or LACMA. Hopefully they’re there for one of my pop-ups to see what my work is like!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jasmine Benjamin. She’s a fellow FIDM Alum, and mentor of mine. She’s one of the most talented stylists in the industry, and a fierce leader. She hustles like no one else!
