Meet Victoria Chaubo | Actress, Writer & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Chaubo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, why did you pursue a creative career?
At a very young age I knew I wouldn’t be able to have a normal 9 to 5 job. I started to write when I was 11, I started with poem than songs and more recently scripts. Pursuing a creative career was always my dream but it’s also very challenging because of the risk you’re never guaranteed to work but it’s uncomfortable sometimes but definitely worth it.

I have no regrets so far I can’t see myself doing something else

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I started as an actress but during the pandemic I started to write scripts and then I finally decided to direct my first professional short film in 2021. I self taught myself using YouTube, books and online classes. It wasn’t an easy road especially in terms of logistics to gathers cast and crew in the midst of a pandemic but we found out way.

So I like not to focus on the problem I immediately think about a solution, sometimes it’s on set or pre or post production, especially in indie filmmaking the financial part is hardest one so I had to raise funds unfortunately we went over the budget so I had to use my personal funds too but at the end of the day we figure it out.
I learn that every dreams have their own challenges the road isn’t going to be easy all the time but theses challenges build your resistance and consistency and at the end of the day if you are really passionate about what you’re doing you’ll keep pushing this how I see myself I’m not the best or the smartest but I’ll work hardi and I’ll not give up until the work is done

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I will first take my friends to Downtown Gilbert to eat a great dinner there’s so many good restaurants great spots for Tacos, Happy hours drinks and we will probably go watch a show at Gilbert’s theater. Another day I’ll take my friend hiking the cholla trail to see this amazing view from Camelback mountain, then later we will go to downtown Tempe to walk alongside the water and maybe ride a bike.
I’ll take them to the spend a day at the Phoenix zoo and then go watch the sunset from the Hole in the Rock, afterward we will spend time at Scottsdale Fashion square to shop

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends Lindsey and Zach played a huge part in my success I met them in LA about 2 years ago and they immediately believed in me and my vision so much bout a year later when started to write scripts I contacted them because I wanted to bring my first story to life they immediately said yes and not only they were fully involved but they also helped in financing this project.

It’s important to surround ourselves with people who believes in you and will help you grow and get closer to your goals. You can’t do it on your own
