We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Jane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria Jane, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a career in the artistic field because I knew there was no way I could sit still at a desk all day. My brain definitely can see one aspect of the design and be able invision the finished project. With time I have grown a variety of skills in the art field which has given me a diverse background of the types projects I have been involved with throughout the years.
Through my personal and career growth, I have accepted that I love the human connection when working with clients. I am a designer that really aspires to have the client’s personality seen with within the project.
As I am trying to get established here in Arizona, my day job that is apart of my artistic background of interior design. I am flexing this muscle and working on my skills as I know this is a direction I am now pursuing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative journey started with personal styling/wardrobe consulting. I still to this day make questionnaires to get to know the likes, dislikes, insecurities, and personality to achieve a unique style that best represents the client. I have ventured into orchestrating photo shoots for small boutiques and models for social media content. This is something I hope to get back into as I love supporting small businesses having quality content to bring in business.
When I decided to go back to school for art at FIDM I was exposed to design in a different light. I was taught experiential design which is most easily described at Anthropology and Free People window displays and stores. It is a way to make art come alive in a tasteful way to achieve a certain emotion or experience.
This is where I feel that I am different with the type of art I am drawn to. I have created many experiential displays that are able to be touched, walked through, and displayed. My goal is to make small boutiques around town have impactful window displays to bring customers in the store.
During my professional life, I have moved so much that getting established has been difficult. This has made me try to incorporate art in my day job as I start to build my business here in Phoenix. I knew I loved helping people feel emotion through their environment which has taken me into interior design consulting. I am currently a Design Supervisor that helps clients design any area of the home. This is keeping me in the art field, but understanding the clientele in this area.
With all this said, it brings light to my diverse background in art. I will say I am finding more interest in personal styling and interior design in the clients I have helped since moving. I believe this branch of my art is what I will be focusing on first with growing my business.
My journey in creating a strong client base has been hard, but being confident I will be staying in the area long term has given me hope that I will be able to start working on client projects outside of my day job in the near future.
What I would love the world to know is that I have a passion for helping create a space where my client feels that their personality is seen whether it be their home or wardrobe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still new to the area but have been visiting for years. Canyon Lake showcases the beautiful desert terrain and is great for having lunch, drinking, listening to music, and kayaking on the lake in the afternoon. I am from the East Coast so the desert scenery is almost shocking to friends and family that have never experienced the beauty.

To be transparent, I am a bit of a food snob. A long-term partner of mine was a great chef and we made it our mission to seek out the best food in all cuisine in each place we lived. So with just moving here, I have only found a few places I love. Snooze is a place I just found and can’t believe I have never been to any of the locations. I am gluten and lactose intolerant and gave up on finding good breakfast places. This gem has been in all the locations I have lived outside of Virginia and it is so accommodating to my allergies.

Another must-go to place is my Aunt and Uncle for a family get-together with their kids and their families. It is such good, fun, and loving energy. They live on an arce plot of land that they have created into a desert oasis throughout the last 35 years they have lived there. I hope to grow my community as I plant roots here and carry that good energy into new friendships.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my three brothers who have supported me in my crazy journey of finding my creative path.
