We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Nieves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success is Jesus Christ, I want everyone to know that without Jesus Christ in my life, there would be no GATE Outreach Ministries.
It is that faith that also sustain our successful current and former residents, faith makes the impossible possible.
Faith makes the difference.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Upon my release from prison in 2009, I got released to Old Pueblo Community Services in Tucson Arizona.
In 2013 I was hired by that same organization as a peer support specialist, in 2014 OPCS assisted me to purchase my first home.
In 2016 I took some time off to build and establish GATE Outreach Ministries, a reentry program. The journey has not been easy but every step has proven that even if one life gets changed, for that one, makes a difference.
I currently direct GATE Outreach Ministries offering services to returning citizens while I also work as housing navigator with OPCS since 2020 this time around..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My family visited us from Puerto Rico not long ago for a week, took them to the gates pass, “A” Mountain, Mt. Lemon, got to eat at Crossroads Restaurant, couldn’t miss on a good E’gees drink and a trip to Nogales for a small taste of Mexico. Ended up our visit up in Sedona and visiting the Grand Canyon.
But one who knows me well, knows that anyone around me will get to visit church and go out somewhere in the community to serve the less fortunate.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a village to raise a child, God has been graceful in placing good people in my path. I’d have to dedicate this shoutout to my wife Ana, she has put up with me over 14 years of good, bad and ugly.
I would like Dee to know that I appreciate her leadership, my employer OPCS for believing in me and all of my GATE Outreach Family for the support throughout the last 5 years.
