We had the good fortune of connecting with Willie Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Willie, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
I am hardly a model with budgeting. When I made an investment in a home studio early on, I limited my budget to essentials to get started and to learn how to produce simpler works. Fortunately, I was able to handle my priorities and have income that allowed me to build up from scratch. As I started to find out about a lot more tools that would help me to improve and expand my options, I went and spent a lot more than I probably needed and I cut back where possible. However, I do feel more satisfied about what these tools have allowed me to do and having my library reached a level that I’ve aimed for it to be at.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My art is influenced by 80s and 90s cartoons, video games, and animes. I produce short videos with music and a simple story. I also live to be very diverse and want to reflect unique themes and personalities. I am proud of everything I’m learning that will go into my next projects.

I just took a step to realize the potential of being a digital artist and creator, swallowed my pride and fears, and put my work out there. It was easy once I got started because I believed I needed to do something that I really enjoy. I have been very dissatisfied for years, but for the first time in a long while I truly felt passionate about what I am doing.

I have learned better ways to design and have the tools to make professional work, but I have bigger challenges due to having less time to finish projects and output work, mostly due to sacrifices and feeling drained from other duties I have to support my day-to-day life and have my studio. When it becomes possible, I dream on going exclusively full-time with studio production and building my brands better.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I am a fan of how the downtown Phoenix area has grown and enjoy hanging out there. I am sure that it should only get better after much of the current construction has finished.

The Whining Pig is a great spot to hang out, eat, drink, socialize, etc. Also, the Cobra Arcade is my favorite spot too. There are always exciting events and shows in the various theatres, convention centers, comedy clubs, and sports arenas too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My Shoutout goes to my nephew, Lil Edmond. He had the courage to play with art and become a YouTube creator with a great audience. He went about content creation years before I gave any thought about trying it.

I’d also like to Shoutout my biggest supporters, Robert the Nerd and Dre, for being influential and the best friend to talk and relate to for our joys in arts and entertainment!

Finally, throwing shoutouts to MaDee, MelloWRLD, Beast Mode, Shae_So_Flyy, Benz, the PMW, along with other family, friends, and/or loved ones.
