What’s the right work-life balance for you?

Our community is filled with hard-working, high achieving entrepreneurs and creatives and so work-life balance is a complicated, but highly relevant topic. We’ve shared some responses from the community about work life balance and how their views have evolved over time below.
Balance can be challenging at all stages of life. For a long time the question was how to balance raising children, working, managing our small farm, staying fit and healthy and still feel like I was grounded and able to be present with life. I often wonder if we are all assigned a team of fairies that help us through those years because, at this point, it seems impossible that I was able to do all of that….and live to tell about it! I actually used to have a horrible work life balance. I am a pharmacist as well, and at my old job I was working 50+ hours a week, not including being on call about 15 days every single month. It was torture. I was only sleeping about 2-3 hours a night and my family life was struggling, but one day I woke up and I finally decided to quit my job and start something new. Read more>>
When I first started DJ’ing, I was DJ’ing and performing as often as I could, multiple times a week. Then, as I built demand for myself, I realized I could DJ less, and charge more. Of course, to get to that point, I had to consistently deliver a great product. My work life balance has been an ever changing process. Since my career is creating fishing videos, it all starts with the fishing. Different times of the year demand more time than others. If I don’t catch anything that is a morning, afternoon, or evening wasted. I find if I work too much, the quality of my content decreases. This is when I need to take a step back and refocus on my personal time. However if I need content, I have no choice but to get out there and make it happen. Read more>>
