Meet Ally Dinbokowitz | Interior Designer, Uncommon Rose Designs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ally Dinbokowitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ally, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The start of my business follows a cliche as old as time, but rings true; Follow your passion. I was sitting in rush hour traffic one Tuesday on my way to my corporate marketing job. I remember it was a Tuesday, because Tuesdays were always booked with back to back dull and yawn-worthy meetings. My commute was an hour both ways and on that day I thought to myself, “I am spending 10+ hours a day doing something I dread. That’s 10 hours I’m away from my daughter, my family. I wish I could be like one of those visionaries who build their own business and shape their lives exactly the way they want it.” And in that moment the most empowering follow up thought hit me like a freight train – “Why can’t I?” I spent the rest of the commute self-examining my life and my passions. If there were no limits, no chances of failing, and monetary gains were irrelevant, what would I spend my life doing? What do I already love to do? What challenges me but also brings me joy? INTERIOR DESIGN. I’ve been doing it as a hobby for YEARS, for myself, for friends and family. It comes naturally and it’s a hobby I do in my free time because I genuinely enjoy the process. So why can’t I make it my livelihood? I spent that entire workday distracted with my head in my notebook. “I hope they assume I’m taking notes on the meetings,” I thought. In reality, I was jotting down business name ideas, descriptive words, goals, first steps, etc. I began building a brand on day ONE. I guess that was the marketing professional in me.
The candle was lit right there on my Tuesday commute and it hasn’t stopped burning since. Ideas turned into actions, challenges arose and continue to arise, but the excitement to shape my own life keeps me going.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Uncommon Rose Designs is built on the idea of integrating style and trend with your individualism, personality and lifestyle. My desire as your designer is to not only enhance your space aesthetically, but also enhance your quality of life within your walls! In simplest terms, I connect style with lifestyle.
Since my very first apartment, I have found insurmountable joy in making a space my own sanctuary. I whole-heartedly believe that your surroundings can affect your every day life, so why not make your home your ultimate happy place? After all, it’s usually where we spend the most time!
When I say I want to connect style with lifestyle, what I mean is I want to move the needle further than just trying to achieve a magazine-worthy home design. I want my designs to enrich my clients’ lives. Do you enjoy entertaining? Do you long for cozy movie nights with the family? Are you yearning for more organization in your life? Do you thrive in a minimalist or maximalist environment or somewhere in between? These are all questions that should be taken into account when creating a design.
Interior designers are talented professionals at making a space look good. Uncommon Rose Designs aims to be a professional at making a space feel good. And look good, of course 😉

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Brunch at Maple and Ash in Scottsdale is a no brainer! Not only is the food amazing, the atmosphere is everything I love in moody interior design. If enough liquid-confidence is built up over brunch, we must head over to Grapevine in Old Town for some good ol’ fashion karaoke fun. I’ve spent many a night singing the night away at Grapevine. You’ll find all walks of life harmoniously joining together to sing “Sweet Caroline”. The energy in there feels unreal!
Because I’m a North Peoria local, I couldn’t let my best friend leave without a visit to Peoria Artisan Brewery. My husband, daughter and I are bonafide regulars. The brews are fantastic, the food is inspired, and the dine-like-a-local feeling is there!
Last, we’d have to have a low-key movie night in, catered by Pine and Swine! Whether you’re feeding 3 people or 300, Pine and Swine has the best charcuterie grazing tables in the valley!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, an interior designer and once upon a time a business owner herself! My mother was a single, full time mom of two, and full time entrepreneur. If it weren’t for her “dragging” me to her projects as a teen, I may have never realized my own excitement for interior design. Additionally, I’d like to recognize my husband. His unwavering support of this venture is what truly gave me the confidence to take a risk and go after it.
