We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Griffin-Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been an independent thinker who wanted to run my own show. While working on my Fashion Marketing degree I interned at a local boutique in Downtown Phoenix and was so passionate about running this shop that the owner trusted me to run it alone. I was able to order inventory, work on marketing materials, style mannequins and the women who came in the store. I learned everything about running a boutique and fell in love with the whole process. That’s when I knew I wanted to open my own shop one day. I started by hand-making jewelry and bags, then one day said to myself, “Let’s go bigger and make it official.” So, in August of 2019 I finalized my LLC as a birthday gift to myself and I’ve been working on my dream ever since!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Luna Luxe was not only created out of my love for jewelry, but also my love for making the women around me feel beautiful, elevated, like their best selves. I always say there is something so therapeutic in the whole process of putting on a nice outfit, getting cute, and adding the finishing touches — your jewelry. That is my ultimate goal; to keep providing pieces that women feel fabulous and confident in!
I am most of proud of my resilience during this process of building Luna Luxe. We all have dreams, but sometimes life happens and we have to focus on other things. I am proud of myself for never giving up on myself and this dream no matter what obstacles surface on my path. Any entrepreneur will tell you — this life is not easy. It requires so much sacrifice and persistence. It’s a blessing to carry an “I’m going to win no matter what” mindset because that’s what keeps me going whenever the obstacles come raining in. I pray on it, remind myself who I am and what my ultimate goal is, and I keep pushing! That is the mark I want to leave on this Earth. I want the women who are around me and supporting my business to have that mindset too, which is why I’m constantly preaching “a Queen Mindset”, reminding women that they are Goddesses who can do anything they put their mind to! And that they can look and feel gorgeous while doing it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My family throws down in the kitchen! Any friend of mine knows this and would be blessed to sit at our table with us and enjoy a hot plate of anything from Soul food, Sea food, to the best BBQ you’ve ever had! But, sure, I’d also give them a tour around the city. One of my favorite chicken spots is Harold’s Chicken on 16th Street and Baseline and I’m also a huge fan of The Vig, so I’d definitely take them there for brunch. For a fun night out I’d take them to Poetic Soul on Central, show them around downtown, the beautiful Tempe Town Lake. I love Caribbean food, so Island Sensation Cuisine on 9th Street and Indian School is one of my favorite spots. It’s such a vibe, the food is amazing, and they even have live music we can enjoy at night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and Foremost, I have to give thanks to my God. On the days I felt like giving up it was signs from Him that kept me going. I pride myself on keep a close relationship with God and praying on both my good and bad days. It is all thanks to Him that I’ve been put in a position to have such passion for my business and determination to be successful. I also have to thank my entire Tribe — my wonderful parents (Lolita and Will), my siblings (especially my sister, Andreanna, my Marketing Queen!), my Honey, my dear friend Gladiela who is constantly pushing me to be great, and each and every one of my true supporters. Without them, this journey would not have been as great as it’s been so far.
