We had the good fortune of connecting with Theo Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I know that no one is more concerned with my career succeeding than I am. I put a lot of time and energy into finding my own opportunities. Support from an agency is a great resource, but don’t put your eggs in one basket.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I have my own creative spirit. I enjoy changing up my look to create more variety. I don’t necessarily follow trends; I wear what I like and I play around with my style. I got to where I am today with a lot of encouragement to follow my dreams. I also worked hard to learn about the industry and network with other models. It is difficult, but being driven and being hardworking helps me pull through.

However, I do wish sometimes that I lived closer to LA so I could easily attend more castings out there. I learned to be creative and versatile with my work. Networking with other models has helped me tremendously, especially because they can relate to similar scenarios. Most importantly, I learned to believe in myself. I’ve doubted myself many times in my life and it just gets depressing if I let negative people get to me. I believe in myself, and that’s what matters most to me.

My biggest accomplishment is, that I just shot my first commercial in May for Dommei Inc. Backpacks.

A few things I want the world to know about me and my brand are I love to learn new skills, I believe there’s always room for improvement, I have big dreams, and I have a creative vision that I can’t wait to project to everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting from out of town the first stop would be to get a refreshing drink at Dutch Bro’s. I think it’s always fun spending time in Scottsdale and visiting Scottsdale Fashion Square. Arizona has so many amazing local restaurants! Some of my favorites are Caldwell County BBQ (amazing BBQ and I love all of their side dishes), Zinburger, Portillos (I’m from Chicago), Tía Carmen, The Drunk Munk (a cool tiki motif), and La Ristra (some bomb queso).

Some fun activities I would do with a visiting friend would be river tubing at the Salt River, hanging out on the cliffs at Saguaro Lake, visiting the Botanical garden, and to escape the heat visiting OdySea Aquarium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my parents for their endless love, and support. I appreciate the guidance and advice I receive from them.

I also want to give a shout out to all my family and friends who have continued to encourage me.
