We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Lutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During my time as a teacher I thrived in helping students achieve their “ah-ha” moments and enjoyed all aspects of putting my 6 year education to great use. However, the salary as a teacher was detrimental to my life outside of the classroom. I knew I wanted my life to be centered on helping students and to continue that passion, but I also wanted a life outside of the classroom with my husband and son. My first thoughts to starting a business that could combine both dreams is where it all began. I wanted to work less hours, with higher salary, with the flexibility to be with my husband and son. It seemed impossible, but I am thriving in the change.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own my own homeschool program for rodeo students, “4L Learning”. I am most proud of the success from my first year teaching to my second. I started out with 12 students and I have more than doubled my enrollment. It excites me that parents are seeing progress in their students and are wanting to spread the word about my program. If it wasn’t for my teaching partner Ms. Lindsey, I wouldn’t be where I am today in my business. At first, it was hard sorting out all the details that comes with starting an LLC, but with the support of her and family I pushed through. The lessons I’ve learned about my business are more focused on improving teaching strategies from year to year.
I would love for people to see how homeschooling can really benefit a child. When your child is learning from a certified teacher, who is more capable of one-on-one time, it can only benefit that child’s education. Homeschooling is a wonderful thing when done correctly!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Go to the town of Cave Creek, AZ for dinner Go to a rodeo near by
The most fun and interesting people to be around are cowboys/cowgirls. They have a wholesome, genuine personality about them.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who has been a pivotal point in my story is Stephanie Lindsey. She put her faith in a stranger and her faith in God to help mold us into a team. She is the reason I am able to combine my passions and my dreams!
