We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisette Carlos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisette, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in southern California, but raised here in Peoria, Arizona. Growing up, we traveled at least once a year to Zacatecas, Mexico to visit my dad’s family. All throughout my youth, my father carried a Pentax film camera. He carried memories for me of my youth and just great memories for our family to live through. So, growing up I really enjoyed looking at these film photographs that captured the adventures my dad went on and I felt like I really wanted to do the same. I wanted to travel and capture my adventures and moments so it could continue on through my family and friends. I feel with that lifestyle, I grew up wanting to achieve goals like traveling the world. Capturing moments and adventures that made me happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photography is my medium in regards to art. I really enjoy being creative and thinking outside the box. Working with different environments and subjects. I think my biggest downside was being shy. I had to push past that challenge and open up to people about my passion for photography and ask people if I could take their picture because I thought they were interesting or I had a good moment with them. I had to do my best to get that point across. I started volunteering for projects such as engagement photos so that my experience could achieve more levels. I wanted to add to my portfolio for future opportunities. I want the world to know that no matter how difficult a situation might be in regards to your passions, you need to push forward to pursue what it is you’re trying to achieve even if you fail. You must keep trying and re inventing yourself for more opportunities. That’s the beauty of life, is experiencing, learning and growing along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visit me I would definitely take them to Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is an up and coming community with lots to explore. The food community there is also growing. I would definitely take them up to Mt. Lemmon for a nice hike. There are a bunch of breweries in Tucson as well. Borderlands, Pueblo Vida, Barrio, and many more. I would probably take them up to Bisbee as well. It’s a small town towards the southern part of Arizona that has a lot of history and quirky shops. Especially getting a reservation at Cafe Roka.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have been huge supporters of my photography. My weird ideas. I have to thank Charissa Cota specifically for giving me the inspiration to push forward and take risks.
