Meet Connor Mobley | Tour guide

We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Mobley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m am one of the many people who live in Sedona, but did not grow up in the area. With the city now being a world renowned destination, more and more people are venturing to sample a piece of the Red Rocks. Everything from the lure of the Vortex, to the cool waters of Oak Creek, to the thousands of ancient ruins, the city speaks to many, for many reasons.
I had worked for other tour agencies and jeep tour companies, the one thing that left a sour taste in my mouth was the “fast food” approach to taking people out on the land. From what I saw, people left with more questions then they started, were mislead on the tour details, or simply overpay for virtually a taxi transport, rather than an educational adventure.
At Dynamic Journey Tours, my partner and I focus on reversing this. Our mission statement is “exploring the southwest like a local”. We offer an approach much different than the rest. The simple approach of a friend taking out friends. Over the last 4 years we’ve had hundreds of successful tours, all done through the perspective of taking old friends out. It’s allowed us to thrive in such high competition.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What specifically sets us apart, other than focusing on education and friendyness, is consistency.
Since we’re a small group, we do all the tours ourselves. Not only are we a part of the booking process, but we’re also the guides. So we’re are the most attentive with our clients, from first contact to the day of tour. Guaranteeing maximum quality, while also being the most affordable. Being private, or our group tour option, we have the best deals, we spend the most time on tour, and the guides accompany the whole day. They’re there to answer questions and guide the best way possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ironically my best friends were visiting Midway through April here.
Without the constriction of permits, or accessibility for tour operators, I was able to make the absolute ultimate trip for myself and my friends.
We spend two days hiking and off-roading through Sedona and the Verde valley, having barbecues in the outback. Hiking and playing and having long days, in the evenings we visited several of the historic pubs in the mining town of Jerome.
After 3 to 4 days of fun and play, our Grand Canyon hike was next on the itinerary. I had reserved months in advance a campground site, and we successfully backpacked the entire Grand Canyon rim to rim. It was one of the best experiences that my friends and I have shared personally or as a group.
After the extreme hike of the Grand Canyon we were pretty worn out and tired, the cool and clear water of Oak Creek was our next destination. We played in swam at grasshopper point for the last couple days of our week-long trip. Later on the same day, we visited the Vortex site of Bell Rock. My friends and I personally are very spiritual and we focused on the meditation that the energy of the land helps to assist ourselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My life and business partner, Rose. Not only has she been there for me since the begining, but also supported me while I was working 2 jobs while building my business. She designed all the logo art, brochures, website design, and much more. She’s irreplaceable.
She’s helped me with the hard days, the 80 hour weeks, the slow season, the pandemic, and everyday stress. With inflation taking a toll while building my life and business, she’s been the best support a person and a man could never ask for.
