Meet Rachel Kaplan | Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Kaplan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what makes you happy? Why?
It makes me happy to write children’s books, so I can share the importance of kindness and acceptance. If I can touch one person’s life and let them know it is ok to be different I will have helped make a difference in the world. In our society it is importance to spread kindness and acceptance.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I took the risk of becoming an author and am now publishing my 7th book, “The Land of Feelings”. I have a learning disability and didn’t learn to read until High School. My source of learning through the years was music and Disney movies. By taking the risk of writing, I have become a more confident person. My books have the theme of kindness, friendship and caring about the world. I love that I can spread the word through the writings of children’s books.
This has not been an easy road. There have been challenges and triumphs along the way. It took a while to have my first book published, but I didn’t give up. I also suffer from anxiety and have not let this interfere with me speaking in public and having book signings. I have had numerous book signings at Barnes and Noble. And I have been featured on Channel Kindness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places are OdySea Aquarium, the Musical Instrumental Museum, and Scottsdale Quarter. I also enjoy visiting Sedona. I enjoy casual restaurants like Zinburger, Cheesecake Factory, and Butterfield’s and Pitch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my story to Disney. Their movies and books have demonstrated the importance of never giving up and if you can dream it, you can do it. Their stories helped develop my imagination. Also, a shoutout to Channel Kindness. Their philosophy helped teach me that I am not alone and that it is ok to be different. An act of kindness can change someone’s life. And finally I would like to recognize my teachers at Pinnacle High School who never gave up on me and taught me to read and pursue my dreams.
