Meet Dawnelle Middlemiss | Custom Apparel Designer/Sewer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawnelle Middlemiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawnelle, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with my idea for my business when I was not finding headbands that would fit my head correctly. Either they would slip off, be too tight or too big for my head or just not the style I was looking for. I decided to get my sewing machine out and start measuring and making my own. Now I make and sell all sorts of items from custom signs, scrunchies, sweat towels, key chains to you name it, I can make it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would not call myself a professional. I just love creating. I have since I was little. I feel it comes naturally for me. So I decided to share my creativity with others. It started out as just making things for myself. Being a teacher, now retired, I would make shirts for work. Then family members and friends wanted products and now, through social media, I am able to show and share my work to anyone. People always wonder where I got the name Dynamitebands and Designs (DBD). Dynamite was my nickname growing up and it just stuck. Everyone should be “dynamite.” Be explosive, be spectacular, be a blast.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Growing up in the midwest where it is lush and green, it is nice to know that Arizona is such a beautiful state, even in the dry, hot summers. Crazy to think just 2.5 hours away, you would be in the tall pines of the White Mountains, That’s where I like to go. We would hike, adventure out in the trails in the ATV or sit at the local outdoor establishments and enjoy a cool beverage and talk. Take in a local farmers market or shop some local small businesses as well. When heading back home, stopping at the Salt River Canyon is a must and a bite to eat in Miami/Globe while window shopping the antique stores there. Always an enjoyable trip and time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family have been my biggest supporters along the way. Their encouragement and support has been phenomenal over the years.
