Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

I chose to pursue an artistic and creative career because I got to a point in my life where I realized I was not pursuing my deepest passion, biggest dreams and I wanted to set the example for my two amazing children to always chase their dreams! No matter how big they are or how many people say it can’t be done, if you believe in yourself you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. It is the message behind my brand Dipidiri. I was lucky enough to be born into a family that loved the arts. In the mid to late 60s the culture was very colorful and I was encouraged to listen to music and absorb art. The Beatles were a major influence on my being. At the age of seven I started taking guitar lessons and as the years went by decided- that’s what I would do with my life. My parents were very encouraging. I went to music school at Temple University (1978-1983) and studied classical guitar. Graduated and was able to make a living teaching guitar and playing gigs.
