We had the good fortune of connecting with PRIMME and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PRIMME, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Saying “yes” is one of the riskiest things I do. Saying “yes” to opportunities that seem intimidating or the one’s I perceive to be outside of my immediate skill set, are ultimately the one’s that force me to step beyond my comfort zone and level up. As an independent singer/songwriter, producer, and business owner, thinking outside the box and taking risks is just part of my job description. Because my work is in a field that is so subjective, I’ve learned that there has to be a reason *why* at the heart of everything I do, because not every risk is going to lead to the outcome I expect. Failing or succeeding as the result of jumping into something with both feet matters a lot less to me than the motive behind the jump – that’s why if I feel 200% committed to any given risk, I try not to overthink it. You have to weigh the risk without letting the risk weigh you down.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For the past four years, I’ve been independently writing, producing and recording lyrically-focused electronic pop music under the moniker PRIMME (pronounced “Prime” – short for my last name ‘Primmerman’). Growing up writing songs & dabbling in production, I was always drawn to the danceable sounds of Prince, Madonna, and the groups of the late 90’s/early 00’s – solid pop music that had a message or story to tell (and AMAZING music videos!) Knowing how much of an effect that music had on me growing up – I hoped to do the same with my music as PRIMME by sharing thoughts and experiences through truthful & storytelling lyrics, engaging melodies & production, and bringing everything together with a cohesive visual. I learned pretty quickly that starting a business & maintaining a brand is a lot of work, especially when heading up both the creative and managerial sides of things while working five part-time jobs to pay the bills at the beginning. Being a DIY creative definitely has its perks, but also comes with a lot of trial and error, and mental, physical, and financial investment. That being said, learning how to navigate around the roadblocks, roll with the punches, and think outside the box are some of the greatest tools starting my own business has given me both as an artist and a human. For my most recent venture, I launched a custom video editing and content creation service, PRIMMEtime Video! At PRIMMEtime, I’m able to fuse my experience in the creative & performing arts with my technical knowledge and passion for all things video creation. Since PRIMMEtime’s inception back in April, my work has been featured on Good Morning America, with clients including Brita Filter (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Canadian streaming platform “Fearless”, Drag Out The Vote, and Divas For Democracy. With both businesses, connection and communication are at the core. Music and visual arts have the ability to impact people in profound ways, and my hope is that through these creative endeavors, personally and professionally, I can make a difference.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t do what I do without my friends – many of whom I lovingly refer to as the #PRIMMEposse – the dancers, singers, creatives, & all around wonderful people that lend so much of their time & creativity to bringing my music & projects to life. More specifically I want to give a shoutout to three of the most influential and inspirational people in my life, Clinton Edward, Allison Maldonado, and Chaz Wolcott. Clinton Edward has been my partner in crime since the inception of PRIMME four years ago and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him. In addition to his credits as a (stellar) choreographer, director, and performer, over the past year he’s established his own Human Design business (Crown & Eclipse) and launched an inclusive creative movement/fitness class (Big Queer Dance Party)! I’m constantly in awe of the multi-hyphenate Allison Maldonado and learn so much from her example. She is hands-down the hardest working gal in showbiz, creating her own series (The Vintage Voyager), art studio (Panchita Designs), and online course for creators (Make Your Own Work Workshop). Look out, world – she’s going to be a household name! My best friend Chaz Wolcott has seen me through all the ups and downs of starting a business. Even when he’s busy choreographing dance numbers for Broadway stages or half way across the country performing, he’s always been there to talk through hard decisions, celebrate the wins, and cheer me on no matter what. Between his packed resume of stage and screen credits (Disney’s Newsies, So You Thing You Can Dance, etc), his rising profile as a choreographer, director, & master teacher, and his outspoken political activism, I look to him as a prime example of what compelling storytelling is and what using your platform & creativity for good looks like.
