Meet Mirror Mom | Edutainor & National Day Ambassador

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mirror Mom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mirror, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Spreading joy and celebrating every day! I’ve said to my kids so many times: “Any day that you get to wake up is a reason to celebrate, especially because many might’ve lost that opportunity.“ They experienced a tragic loss a few years ago and know exactly how true this is. I want to teach them how to make the most of every day and have fun along the way. Came across and started incorporating National Holidays to help show them that there is literally always a reason to celebrate! We already practiced daily affirmations, I wrote them on our restroom mirror (sometimes it’s a whiteboard or our patio window), later I added National Days along with other topics to educate and keep them entertained. I grew up listening to Bob Marley and incorporate one love in everything I do. I wake up and give thanks every day I get a chance to spread love. Kindness is free so I make sure to sprinkle it everywhere I go. I try to execute this on a daily basis by drawing cute characters on the “Mirror Mom Mobile” or leave “Mirror Mom Minis” to be found around the city. I get to drive while making people smile and spreading National Day awareness so that many more will join in on the celebration of life!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is “edutaining” (educational and entertaining). I love bringing inanimate objects to life, I turn them into cute kawaii inspired characters that help me relay information about fun facts and national days. I get to teach my kids, and the world, new things and give them reasons to celebrate! Drawing was not one of my strong suits but doing it daily has definitely helped improve my skills. Practice absolutely makes perfect!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love going up to Dobbins Lookout at South Mountain, the massive view of Phoenix helps remind me of how little and how big life is. The scenery along Tempe Town lake is great for walking or bike riding. A walk through Roosevelt Row and its surrounding neighborhoods to see incredible art. There are too many delicious options for eating but a few we’d have to visit are Caribbean Palm, Tokyo Stop, Republica Empanada, Teharu, Pho 43 and Birrieria Obregon. For adult fun, even though I say I’m never gonna grow up, Cobra Arcade Bar is a great place to drink and relive your childhood with their amazing collection of retro arcade games.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Ju’wan has been beside me the entire way and is very encouraging about me sharing my happiness with the world. He’s helped establish Mirror Mom and I continue to watch in excitement at how much he dedicates his time to helping me succeed. My big sister Micha is always cheering me on, so supportive and is quick to remind me of how amazing I am. Growing up I got to witness her awesome art skills, she’s definitely one of my inspirations. My mom Aurora, when I was little she constantly told me to not write on her walls… Now she asks me to draw on her house and car too, while proudly sharing the Mirror Mom Mission with anyone who asks. Friends who support your dreams and every single person who I’ve sparked joy in!
