We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Elizabeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I think about balance, I think about how I can merge my own personal life and work life into one, instead of keeping them so separate. I personally believe that is partially why there is a concept called “Sunday Scaries” – because people are dreading to start the work week and leave their personal life/fun on the weekends. In reality, I think it’s more ideal to merge into one so that I don’t view work as such a mundane task or only an income producer, but rather is something I thoroughly enjoy; whether that is because of the people (like my clients and team), the actual work I do, or etc.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have two different businesses: Elite Skate Wear and Loshattan Co.
My first business was Elite Skate Wear, which is a custom figure skating dress brand and community, a business that I initially started out on eBay when I was 17-years old. During college, I slowly started to expand the brand and realized there was a huge opportunity for me to scale the business and by the time I graduated college, I landed partnerships with pro-shop stores around the world to carry my collection. Since this was my first business, this was where I learned all of the do’s and don’ts, from wholesale pricing, marketing, sales pitches, eCommerce, taxes, etc. It’s all about trial and error and learning along the way.
My second business was inspired during the 2020 pandemic, Loshattan Co., which is a boutique creative marketing agency where we work with lifestyle and hospitality businesses in elevating their brand voice and presence on digital platforms based on their target market. During college, I did blogging and various creative work for myself, as well as an internship for a digital marketing agency, so I had a lot of hands-on experience in this industry prior to launching my own agency.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in Southern California for nearly six years now, so I have a lot of experience in both LA and OC. But to bring the focus on LA, if I had a friend in town, I would definitely bring her to Elephante in Santa Monica on our first night for some drinks and dinner and then maybe pop over to some bars in the area. For brunch, we would either end up at The Ivy or Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills (because you can’t go wrong there). Other nights, I would definitely take my friend to Mastro’s in Malibu for a gorgeous view or BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood and definitely head out to some clubs in the area afterwards.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my community of friends. Over the past few years, from college thru post-grad life, I have had the most incredible support system from my friends and without these people in my life, I would not have been able to navigate the obstacles the way I have.
