We had the good fortune of connecting with Honey Gould and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Honey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our business came around very organically. I am one half of Honeysblooms, and my daughter is the other. I decided to make her this installation I had seen on Instagram from a European company, because I searched everywhere and couldn’t find any realistically options in America, let alone the valley. When I surprised Angel at her birthday brunch, I was approached by some girls asking where I got the life-size, pink, floral number from. I re-told the story, and despite my insistence it was not a business, they begged me to make one for their upcoming birthday. I did, and it just flew from there really.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our product is hand made, each installation having over 6000 flowers. A single number takes weeks to perfect and the beauty is in the progress. We are so proud to be offering such a unique product to everybody in the valley and keep our signature pink floral numbers whilst also growing and creating other ideas. We always are ahead of the trend and I am really proud of our work that reflects both the time and effort put into each installation but also the creative process that we undertook to arrive at the final product.
Any business is hard and the added compound of COVID made everyones lives and businesses harder. Events were hit particularly hard due to the inherent nature of the pandemic meaning no events, social distancing and quarantining generally. We were committed to keeping our customers safe and we thought that could be the end of our short lived business. However, the opposite occurred. We used the pandemic as an opportunity to go direct to the consumer and bring a smile to peoples faces during the hardest year of their lives. Girls all over the valley were spending birthdays alone, wedding anniversaries, mothers day and so on, so our products offered the opportunity to be safe and still mark special occasions.
We learnt that evolving is the foundation of successful business models and a commitment to the clients happiness and community care during such a rough time, will always prevail in terms of true satisfaction and accomplishment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First place I am taking an out of towner is to Pizzeria Bianco. Hands down the best pizza in the valley created, of course, by the famed restaurateur and chef Chris Bianco. We had the pleasure of meeting Chris personally and his smile is as addictive as his pizzas. Visiting is hard because theres so many places to choose from! Our favorite thing about the valley is that each area is so contrasting from one another. Old town scottsdale is definitely an attraction, but so is Roosevelt Row or downtown Tempe. We love the Scottsdale Quarter for a true Scottsdale experience and if we were lucky, we would be able to show off one of our installations that we have been fortunate enough to have on display at the quarter.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter Angel is really my motivation, inspiration and support system. Although she is now one half of Honeysblooms, it also happened pretty organically, we bounced off each other well and I relied on her for help with design and social media and overall support. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this alone, and without her, there is no Honeysblooms.
Whilst our work is by women, for women we would not be able to do anything without my husband, Simon Angels dad too) We never imagined how physical and labor intensive our work would be. Simon has been our hero. Taking days off from his own business to accompanying us on jobs, helping with the creating of the installations, everything. This chapter of my life has turned into a chapter of ours as a family, and I am forever grateful for the love and effort put in by the people I’m honored to call family.
