We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Sharp, ChFC® and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
When I started Redeem Wealth it was with the intention and purpose of helping others make a bigger impact in the world. Whether this is with family, community, social issues or environment, our wealth can be the catalyst used to make this impact. When wealth is used as the means, and not the end, it can be Redeemed to create good and human flourishing. We can be intentional with the way that we use our resources to invest in good, and create a positive impact and legacy for our family and future generations.
One thing for me in particular really started this change in our own lives. Our family is passionate about helping children in Phoenix that have been placed in foster care. Our ultimate goal is to help these children reunify with their family. However, in my investment portfolio I found I was profiting from companies that create products and services that historically have fueled addiction and preyed on low income families. These products and services in many cases have caused addictions and have led to many families losing their kids.
When I own companies like this in my investment portfolio, I profit from what they profit from. We found that this was in direct competition with the values of our family, and our mission to help with re-unification for families. By choosing to sell these positions in our investment portfolio, we were able to align more closely our money with our values, and re-invest in companies making a positive impact in our communities instead.
My goal is to continue to educate others to show them how they can maximize their impact, and how their small changes, when combined with others, can make positive change in the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the Investment Management and Financial Planning world for about 12 years now. I have always thought I had to be a fighter, but it wasn’t until I gave up that control, I started to find real success. One of my favorite quotes is from the book of Isaiah. It says “quietness and confidence will be your strength.” This isn’t natural for me, but the more I take on this posture, the more I find contentment and joy in my work, which for me has led to much more “success” as an owner.
Redeem Wealth was created to help people align their values with their investment portfolios and help people make the biggest impact with the resources and wealth they have available to them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are East Valley people. We love the Downtown Gilbert vibe! We also spend a lot of time at Barnone and Agritopia. Our go to spots are Joe’s Farm Grill, Fire and Brimstone, and Joyride Tacos. For drinks, The White Rabbit never disappoints. We also have an awesome little diner in our neighborhood called “The Handlebar.” The chef, Adam Allison is one of our favorites!
We love exploring Arizona, but locally we enjoy taking our Jeep to “Bulldog Canyon” and exploring the desert.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Having a team at Redeem Wealth that is pushing this mission forward makes this job so much easier. Thanks so much to my friends, Brian Hagan and Houston Friend for being just as passionate about this as me.
My wife Grace has been my biggest cheerleader and support. I’m so glad to be able to pursue these things together with you.
