We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Canchola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andy, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor that I have behind my success is all the support I have. Being from a small town like Yuma you don’t hear many people wanting to be an actor or making YouTube videos. Thankfully my parents my brother and my now wife have always supported me by pushing me to audition for different things and actually acting in some of my short skits for YouTube. I feel like having them behind me and pushing me to be better has a huge factor of my success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being first generation born in the United States being an actor in unheard of. You either work in the fields or you try to go to school. I of course was different and wanted to make short films with Friends. Coming from a small town you really learn to improvise and learn how to shoot and edit your own stuff while also acting in front of the camera. This helped me out by being able to adapt to a lot of situations and also not only act but help behind the scenes.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Yuma is pretty famous for their bean and cheese burritos so of course when everyone comes down you have to take them to Mr. Gs or Chili Pepper. Also here in Yuma it is surrounded by sand dunes so we have to go off roading out here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank all the groups in Arizona especially on Facebook that share all auditions for free. I didn’t come from a wealthy family so paying for auditions was never in the picture for me. So I want to thank the Arizona Actors page on Facebook and Durant communications for sharing auditions in Arizona. Also a huge shoutout to Director Jayde Anderson for casting me as Rudy in her short film and believing in me to being the comedic relief in a short horror film!
