We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Scales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Plantbawdy started off as an alter ego name that I gave to myself. Throughout my journey as vegan (and now raw vegan), my family and those who follow me on social media, have watched me not only mentally evolve but physically as well. Initially, I dropped close to 30lbs after my first 30 days vegan. I was swimming in my clothes, everything was too big. So, of course, everyone noticed that my body was changing and I remember saying to someone, this is a “PlantBAWDY”.
I carried on the name just as my new identity, but as time went on, I realized that PlantBAWDY was universal. If one, makes a conscious decision to remove meat and dairy, and fuel their temples with “life” then, they too will become a Plantbawdy, without question!
In 2020, I decided that I wanted to make Plantbawdy a business. I wanted to use my platform, my experience and passion as a vehicle to empower wombmen to find their own peace, self love and healing through a vegan lifestyle. I am no different than the next sister, in terms of once upon a time consuming trash food, alcohol and no love for self. So, through my social media, I share my journey through healing and repairing my temple and mental after years of being ignorant and mis informed about the proper and improper ways of taking care of self. Everyday, I hope that I’m able to inspire at least one wombman, to step outside of herself and ask “ Are you happy with yourself?” “Do you know who are? Are you feeding your temple, life or death?
And after, truly sitting with those questions, honestly answer, and then make it a priority to reevaluate what you’re feeding your mind and bawdy.
I find pure joy in being authentic about where I’ve been to where I stand now. I am doing exactly what I am supposed to do. It feels so amazing!
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a beauty and wellness brand, and there are many out there, as we know! However, there is nobody like ME! I set my business apart because of the passion that I have for wellness! It is my mission to educate as many wombmen as possible. Dis- ease and sickness is a choice. I truly care and would do everything that I am doing for free, if I could!
In my business, I have been able to watch so many wombmen who look like me, transition to a vegan lifestyle, come off medications, stop drinking alcohol etc. Watching them do what they believed they couldn’t, is what makes me most proud!
If it weren’t for me being sick and tired of being sick and tired of my own choices, I wouldn’t be where I am. I recognized long ago that the sick can’t heal the sick! The “sick” must become healthy and then assist others in getting well. I had to detox, fast and heal myself in order to confidently say, “if I did it, so can you!”.
This journey/business has its challenges but it’s worth it. When you have the privilege to get up everyday and do what you love, it doesn’t feel like business. My sister, Chanel, who has had multiple businesses over the last several years, has been the reason I know as much as I do when it comes to my own buisness. I am lucky to have her!
I can truly say that I am operating in my soul mission, but it took going through many dead in jobs, failed businesses etc to get to where I am now. I have my own beauty and wellness space (PLANTBAWDY BEAUTY AND WELLNESS) located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Often times, I sit back and look at my life currently and can’t express nothing but gratitude, because even when I couldn’t see the “big break” and all of the greatness that was out there for me, I stayed the course, stayed positive and spoke about everything I wanted for my life as if I’d already had it. Manifestation is REAL!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
These days, I am a bit “boring” lol I don’t have the social life that I once did.
But, I’d say, hey sis! On Friday, we’re going to hit up Nostalgia, a super dope jazz lounge in OTR. Afterwards, we can go grab some
Sushi in Clifton from Drunken Bento, I’d get some yummy raw vegan sushi.
Saturday morning, we can go down to Black Owned Coffee, we can grab some
Yummy fresh fruit juices, sit and vibe out, the environment is super eclectic. Later that evening, we can have dinner some where downtown that also offers raw vegan options for myself and then afterwards another music lounge.
Being someone who has changed the way I eat and living in a city where the vegan (raw) options are slim pickings, I don’t partake in a lot in my city. I travel often to Atlanta, for the food and the better social options.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Major shout out to my older sister, Chanel Scales. The one person in my life, who knows me to the core. The one person who is slightly responsible for the fire under my butt. Chanel has always seen the greatness in me, and even when I didn’t, she pushed me and encouraged me to do what I loved and nothing less. Watching her evolve and motivate herself despite our upbringings, has always inspired me to GO HARDER!
