Work-Life Balance: is there such a thing?

A host of factors, developments, and dynamics have made most industries more competitive than ever. As a result so many of us wonder whether there is still such a thing as work-life balance. We reached out to the community to hear perspectives on finding the right balance.
Being a business owner, wife of a busy Fire Captain and mom of young children Life work balance is probably the single hardest thing to deal with on the daily. Im am in the fitness industry, and own a gym- not just any gym, a very close, tight knit boutique CrossFit gym, where every member is like family and we know them and care about them individually. We worry about them and when we lose a member, or someone leaves, moves, quits, or goes to another gym it hits us personally. So trying to treat this like a business, but also keep the tight close knit environment we have built up, whilst also being present for my family has become extremely difficult. It’s an interesting question for me because before I became an artist and started my business, I worked as a Director of Marketing for seventeen years in the concert industry which is 24/7. I was always working because something always came up, but because I had a family and two small kids, I always found a way to balance the two and make it a priority to be at their games and volunteer in their classrooms. In the beginning, “work life balance” looked more of a juggling act. It meant both of us were trying to work full-time, raise 3 kids, and start a new business. I’ve always been a hands-on, throw-myself-in-the-deep-end kind of person, who, when committed to something, gives it my all. I like being busy, but up until the age of about 25, this often meant that my life consisted of time-consuming jobs, a packed social life and extra commitments, plus my own side hustles – even to the detriment of my health sometimes.
