We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Kline and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
To be honest, it felt like flowerbomb was something that I needed to pursue. As an artistic person, I’ve always been drawn to creative ways to express myself; writing music has always been an outlet for me to process and make sense of my experiences and connect them to the larger world around me. I created flowerbomb as a passion project, and I want to see where I can go with it. It would be mind-blowing if we could pay our rent through making music alone, but ultimately that’s never been a driving force. We do it because we love it and because it allows us to connect with people and express ourselves in a creative and fulfilling way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Flowerbomb combines elements of shoegaze, punk, alternative, emo, pop, and indie rock to create our signature sound. I think our versatility in blending multiple genres, as well as our honest and raw lyrics, set us apart from other artists. We’ve gotten to where we are today by working incredibly hard and making genuine connections with people at shows and in our community.

We’ve learned so much since flowerbomb’s inception, but perhaps the most important thing we’ve had to come to terms with is how much work is required for being in a professional band. I think what we’ve been able to accomplish thus far is really a testament to our work ethic. I’m proud of us for persevering and having a deep love for what we do, even when it gets difficult or overwhelming. I want the world to know our passion and desire to connect with others on a human level. The experiences I write about may not be universal, but I think that most people can relate to the feelings behind them. In addition, I want people to know flowerbomb as a queer artist. I am a queer woman, and everything I write about comes from that lens.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out Dan ABH, my mentor, producer, drummer, friend, and partner in all things flowerbomb. Without his continued support, sharing of resources, and dedication to helping me build my craft, there would be no flowerbomb. We both joke that this band is like a second full time job, and I don’t know anyone else who would be willing to put in so much time and hard work into a project like this. I am incredibly grateful.
